I can get great bluesy tone from my standard 04 MIM Tele, just roll off the treble and wail-no problem-it's all in the hands, just listen to what Muddy Waters could do with a standard unmodded Tele.Of course you could go the Albert Collins Tele route with the humbucker in the neck position.

My amp also is a Fender Blues Deluxe RI. My Tele is a 2007 Fender Custom Shop Vintage Telecaster Relic and it is the best telecaster I have ever played. It's clear and powerful tone blew me away and I had to have it once I played it ( i got over the high price quickly!). It has an ash body, nitrocellulose lacquer finish, mid 60's oval "C" maple neck, Seymour Duncan '59 humbucker pup in the neck position and a '51 Nocaster pup in the bridge position.
What a great guitar! A big warm tone with punch. Not a traditional high pitched tele.

But my advice when buying a guitar is to play it. You can't tell sound by looks or specs. I certainly would not have looked for the specific combo in the tele I bought but loved once I heard it.

If you can't afford the Custom Shop (wish we all could), go play an American Deluxe with the S-1 switching. You can really get some great tones out of it.

I've got a blond with ash body. Couldn't be more pleased.

If it were me, I would look at the 72 deluxe....
