I'm new to the forum. I just bought a Lite Ash Tele and it plays like a dream. Everything is perfect except the static that comes through the amp from touching the pickguard. I rest my pinky there while I'm playing. Is there and inexpensive way to remedy this? I've heard it's a common problem with Teles.

Put a Dryer Static Sheet under the pickguard.

Just like that? Open it up and add a sheet of Bounce?

I have a Standard MIM Tele and I have the exact same problem, and it drives my crazy. I'll try the static sheet under the pick guard and let you know how it works. Thanks for the info !!! :)

i've never tried the dryer sheet method. but i have eliminated all the buzz from all of my guitars by properly shielding them.
just put copper tape at the bottom of each of the pickup cavities and the control cavity and solder a wire between each of them. then solder a wire from the copper tape in the control cavity to the bottom of the volume pot.
it's very easy and cheap. you can get the copper tape at a harware store (in the garden section of all places) for a few bucks. and wire is really cheap at an electronics store.

The dryer sheet works, plus your nasty old tele will smell like springtime!

Yes - just like that. I placed a dryer sheet under my pick guard and to my surprise "no static", none, zip, nada. I am static free and sane, what a great idea and it works ! ! ! thanks for the info. Oh, my Tele smells springtime fresh now, the smell of stale beer has vanished. :D
