Hey guys. I have a VERY weird tele. I bought off of a friend and i didnt know much about it. All I know is that was made in Mexico between '96-'97 and he did some mods on it(adding humbucker in the neck position, maybe repainting it). the odd thing is that when gets a scratch on it and the red paint comes off there seems to be a gold sparkly color underneath. PLEASE HEPL!!! :? :P :P :P :P :P

1. Tell your friend he did a crappy refinish job on the guitar.
2. Stop scratching it.

OR...
Is your red finish kind of sparkly? If it's the original factory finish you might have Candy Apple Red (CAR) finish. Fender applies a gold or silver basecoat and then covers it with clear red. MIM Fender's use a tough as nails polyester finish. You must really be banging hard on the guitar to take off the red topcoat. The only help I can give you is to tell you to stop scratching it unless you want a "relic" look.

Then again, maybe this isn't even a real Fender. Impossible to say without seeing pics or at least a better description.
