I'd like to get my first tele, I have a strat, LP, Carvin. $1000.00 is definatly my ceiling, and I'm trying to decide which one. The Hwy One, Hwy One Texas Tele, the American Special and the Baja all are in my budget, probably with money left over for a hard case. The shops around me never have many of these, let alone all 4 too compare. The Baja was probably leading the pack until I heard everyone talking about the big chunky neck, my paws aren't very big. They all have different finishes, pickups, bridges. Right now I'm reading reviews on each comparing specs, but I thought I would ask the Tele owners here because I respect your opinions. So if you had that grand and wanted your first Tele, what would it be? :?:

Marked price on my new in box '10 American Standard was $875. (Where are you shopping???)

The American Standard is the one I would recommend - highly (I like Blizzard w/maple) for under a grand.

Wow, I thought those started at a grand and went up depending on color. Now I have to throw those in the mix.

Build your OWN! For $1000 you can build a Tele to your own specs that will slay any other tele you would pay $1000 for.

all you have to do is decide on the body, neck and parts. Someone else an finish it for you for a decent price and then assembly. not much to it.

My local guitar center has a used American Vintage 52 for 1100, that would be my first tele(after haggling trying to get them to lower the price :P)

That's the one I'd go for or find a used one in the best condition I could find. These days you'd be surprised what you can buy with that much cash. JMHO! YMMV!

Put a new twisted tele in the neck and a hot nocaster in the bridge. 8)

Are you dead-set on new? I see Tele Deluxe's on Craigslist all the time in the $1000. range.

Another vote for an American Standard ('09), $949 + tax at GC. I believe mine was about $50 more because of the finish. Fantastic Tele! :D

Well if you're prepared to get hands on at sorting the thing out, get the Baja Tele. That is my ultimate advice. If you only ever had to have one guitar ever again, it would be enough. If you'll have a play about with it.

Small hands aside, mine are tiny. Neck thickness doesn't come into it unless you have a real disability. The big necks are so comfortable when you get used to em. Your hand just glides round. Did you ever hear anyone complain seriously about a 58VOS neck, well these are about the same.

That said the Baja Tele I bought was not without problems. Fret level and general visual things. They were a beautifull guitar hidden behind a monster when I bought mine. Hopefully they have those minor issues sorted out now.
