Ok,

So this came up for sale yesterday. At first glance I thought it was a HWY1. But then I looked at it closer. It appears to be a Baja Tele as the ad states. Everything is correct, even the 21 frets. But the stamp says "Made in USA"

This is a weird one.

Any suggestions on this guitars story?

I'm not aware of a American Classic player's guitar, except the customshop one.

The seller is far too vague in his description of the guitar. What are the pickups? Switching options? Why is that neck so pale? Does it have the enormous hunk of maple that the usuall Baja's have?

All in all it seems like he's trying to misrepresent the guitar by not giving enough info. The font on the serial no' looks wrong too. Way too thick.

Yeah, I don't think that's a baja (Bajas have only been MIM to my knowledge). Now if it has all the switching options and the correct pickups associated with the Baja, it could be a Factory Special Run or perhaps it's just been modified. Either way, not enough info as the ninja said ^^

Here is the answer. The guitar is a stock Highway 1 Texas Telecaster in honey blonde. Dead giveaway was that Baja's don't come in that color, and the neckplate is blank on the guitar in question. I have a Baja at home and have played a few TX Teles the past few years.

Compare the seller's guitar to this: http://www.elderly.com/fmic/items/FHW1TT-HBL.htm It's a perfect match!

The seller admits to being clueless and probably just did an internet search and saw the Baja and decided "that looks close enough to mine". There actually are quite a few differences between the Hwy 1 TX Tele and the Baja. But I wouldn't call one "better" than the other. It's a personal choice. The TX Tele might have a little better build quality, while the Baja might have the better pickups. I'm not sure if $750 Canadian is a good price since I don't see used TX Tele's for sale often.

There you have it.

I knew it wouldn't take long to come up with the answer. What a huge volume of knowledge on this forum. Thanks metropolis74.

I like the vintage tuners, it reminds me of BlackCatBone's HWY1, except his sports a classy black pickguard.

I am not going to buy it. Not too different then my HWY1, I'll just find some CS pups for mine. Maybe I'll be so lucky to find someone to trade a Boss pedal for an Abby

Thanks again guys.

I like the vintage tuners too and wish that they were still standard issue.
