I was getting tired of the thin sounding pickups in my mid-90's MIJ '62 Tele Reissue.

I picked up some '51 Nocaster pickups based on the reviews and positive comments that I've read recently. I installed the new pickups into the Tele and plugged it in to my '66 Tremolux head with a Bandmaster cabinet.

I played on the bridge pickup for awhile. It sounded alot more full than the stock pickups while retaining that vintage tele twang. Awesome.

The trouble came when I switched over to the neck pickup...
It sounds almost exactly the same as the bricge pickup. The difference between all 3 positions is extremely minor. I tried adjusting the pickup height and only get a small difference in the tone. Is this normal?

I didn't have any parts around at the time that I changed the pickups, but I am planning on changing the cheap Japanese pots and three way switch. I am also going to change out the cheap wires for cloth covered wires. I may also give the '50's wiring a try.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with these pickups? Will the 50's wiring give me a more diverse instrument?

I respecfully suggest that you made a mistake in the wiring somewhere. Of course this is just a guess but the neck and bridge pickups should sound quite different - unless you're just strumming open chords. If you're playing all over the neck, chords and lead lines, etc., you should hear a distinct difference.

Try this:

Plug Tele into amp. Turn up amp and volume on the guitar.

Tap on each pickup with a screwdriver while moving through all three switch positions. You'll hear a click through the amp if the pickup is "on" and silence through the amp if not.

I'm guessing one of the pickups isn't working at all and you have the other on all the time.

I bought a Fender american deluxe telecaster, but did not come with the name Fender pickup in the bridge, and did not come with the inscription N3. Is this normal? Or is it wrong?
