I don't understand all the hate for the knobs. They look exactly like the ones they put on the Deluxe RI. Or the thinline 72, etc etc. And they look like the same shape as a strat.

I don't mind them at all, but to each his own. I think the chrome ones look kind of bulky and out of place. Isn't it funny how things look differently to different people. Plus, it's just looks, if they work, at some point looks is secondary. Well, maybe. Hehehehe

It's the functionality...for instance doing volume swells smoothly.

Aaaaah, gotcha. I could see how the bigger ones would be better for that. But like I said, they're not smaller than the strat I don't think.

I'm wondering if you could get a different color pickguard for it? And, if you wanted to swap in some P90's if that would be possible.

Maybe this poll (closes in 90 minutes) will be some help to Fender?

Is that 'battleship gray" - - at any rate it looks great with that guard!

I played one of these at the store yesterday. Plays like any other MIM standard Tele. The selector switch is not what is on the standards - I noticed when looking down on it that the stalk seemed awful long and thin. Upon inspection, you can tell it is a cheap plastic switch inside. The neck humbucker sounds nice. The bridge pickup... to my ears it was nasal and honky sounding. Not what I expected, and not pleasing. Even at this price point, I would not buy it. This feels like something that straddles the line between Squier and the MIM Standards, with the Standards being a step above them.

Only nice feature was the tummy cut out on the back of the body.

Really, the idea was good, but poorly executed. I think these are aimed at the intro level market, or maybe kids upgrading from their Affinity Squier.

I agree! This guitar would look better with ivory binding on the top and a contoured neck heel a la American Deluxe. 8)

The 22nd fret and the jumbo fretwire are two great additions for a Mexican-made guitar.

Or the ones looking for a decent guitar to take on a plane for a distant gig or two, without risking the sirport gorilla handling of your special ones?

Sure, nice idea. I just didn't see why people were getting so hyped up about these guitars becasue when I tried them they seemed mediocre at best. I don't want to come across as some gutiar snob either - I own two MIM's and I love them dearly. I just think that once you get past the pretty photos Fender has on their site, the Blacktops are not spectacular.
