Hey guys, i ordered a new American Deluxe Telecaster in the aged cherry burst colour with maple neck in june through fender's employee discount program. I was just wondering if i should get my hopes up of it arriving within the next month or so, or should i plan on waiting another 3 months for it? Also, just out of curiosity, why is it taking so long? thanks!

Hey Aaron,

I ordered my 2010 American Deluxe Telecaster back in May! Unfortunately, I'm still waiting. The date was pushed back a couple times so you're going to have to be patient. My original receive date was the first of August. Fender seems to be pretty exclusive from their customers so your vendor is going to be your middle man. I ordered mine, a 3-tone sunburst with rosewood fretboard, from Guitar Center and received a couple different excuses (paint matching issues, a "fire" at their plant, and also production was on hold). This is my first Fender guitar and I'm really hoping I made the right choice. Mine is supposed to ship September 15 and if it does, lets just say I'm throwing a party and everyone who is waiting on one, or did wait on one is invited to attend. Of course there is no formula for receiving guitars, so others may have a very different experience. Hopefully you get plenty of responses because it does feel good talking about things when you feel like you've been waiting forever! Good luck, hang in there and keep us posted!

Aaron, help me out here as I am confused.

You bought this through the EMPLOYEE program......and you just can't ask a Supervisor/Manager?

Aaron,

I just found out yesterday Fender pushed my receive date back another month (to mid October). At this point, I have no faith in any dates given to me by Fender as it is the third time the date has been pushed back. I don't know if I am alone in this experience or if there are many others? Please post your experiences (where you ordered it and how long it took) for those of us still waiting!

It seems that FMIC may have had some layoffs and results in pushing the production schedules back. It's the same story with Am Deluxe Strats, many web sites are saying 'out of stock' or 'expected delivery soon'.

Everyone,

After reading many forums about Fender's recent slowdown for American Deluxe guitars, I picked the most reasonable and credible explanations as to why it is taking them so long to get these guitars out to consumers. The first reason, is paint matching issues. Since their previous paint vendor went out of business, they have been working to not only get a reliable supplier, but also get new paint samples as close to the original colors as possible. No doubt, that takes time and seems reasonable to me as I was told that by Fender.

Secondly, layoffs as Miami Mike stated. There are a couple things that raise some red flags to me. If they have laid off employees (someone stated 30% of their employees), am I still going to get the Fender quality that I am paying for in the Deluxe series? I have no problem waiting to see for myself and will certainly be very attentive in regards to quality checks when (and if) it arrives.

This whole situation is unfortunate and I can't seem to favor positive excuses over the negative excuses simply due to the fact that these are only forums without 100% credibility. In addition, the saying, "Guitars just aren't built as well as they used to be," is already in the back of my mind. However, I will do my best to keep potential buyers or anyone waiting as aware as possible when I get mine.

Thanks,

Lee

I'm on my fourth promised date from Fender since I ordered my guitar in April. Thier current guess seems to be January now. I may as well ask random strangers on the street when it is going to arrive -- their guesses would be as good as Fender's. The dates may have slipped more that four times without me knowing because I have stopped asking.

I like fender guitars. If I see a fender I like at a store I will buy it. I will NEVER order a fender guitar again. No so much for the wait -- I have bunches of guitars so its not like I'm forced to air guitar. Its the shifting dates. It feels like I ordered a very expensive instrument from wallmart -- huge company, terrible tracking, bad communication, and no real interested in letting people know the actual status of a product they ordered.

DerGeist,

Where are you located and where did you order from? I thought my situation was bad. I was recently told October, (I also took that date, wiped my $@! with it and flushed it down the toilet), but I live in the United States. What guitar and finish did you order?

Hello All,

I have had an American Deluxe Tele Ash Butterscotch on order since June 4th. This week, I spoke with both my sales rep and with Fender directly. The delivery time has been reported as up to 24 weeks.

I also have a friend that works in the Custom Shop. From the information that I have gathered from the three sources, the three main reasons for the delay are a company layoff, issues with the Paint Vendor and creation of a new paint facility, and an underestimated forecast of demand.

Since ordering my American Deluxe, I have purchased a MIM '72 Classic Reissue Custom and an American Standard. I wouldn't worry about the quality of the Deluxe when it arrives, as the American Standard that I bought has the best fit and finish of any guitar I have ever picked up. It was delivered to the dealer late in August.

I have had nothing but good experiences with Fender, and while the wait is a bit of a drag, I just look at is as extra time to practice as well as save for the guitar and any accessories I may want.

Edit: I forgot to mention that when I spoke to Fender on Tuesday, they told me they are almost caught up on their back orders.

I ordered a Thurston Moore model Jazzmaster which comes in forest Green. I'm in Ottawa Canada and ordered through Long and Mquade which is one of the biggest music store chains in Canada.

Doth,

Right on man! Those two are real beauties. Your American Standard does have a gorgeous finish as far as American made quality and their new paint goes. Thanks for the reply and I'm glad you've had good experiences with Fender as this is my first and it's been a little shaky. Please let me know when you get your new Deluxe, I would love to hear your feedback on all the new hardware, finish, and overall feel. I will do the same. I too have been suffering from a little GAS and bought a MXR Custom Shop Compressor, a Way Huge Electronics Pork Loin OD (I can't wait to hear it with single coils...it sounds GREAT with my Les Paul), and a MXR CC Delay. Do you have any other Deluxes?

DerGeist,

There must be some additional delay as far as international distribution. I really hope they surprise you though. I just checked out your Jazzmaster and that thing is mean looking! Between the finish, the anodized pickguard and the rosewood fretboard, it has a sweet grainy modern look to it.

Hey ohiho1010,

MF's website shows a delivery date of the Am Dlx as 10/12/2010. Maybe ours will arrive around the same time.

I know that many might disagree, but I really like the flat modern plate bridges vs the vintage ash tray, but that is just my humble opinion.

Let me know when yours comes in,
Doth

Doth,

I checked Guitar Center's website on the American Deluxe guitars and it's saying that they will be in September 29th now. I'm trying not to get excited but I guess we'll see. I'm totally with you on the modern bridges vs. vintage bridges. I haven't played on the ash tray bridges but I know the modern style is very comfortable on your hands as far as palm mutes go (not to mention how sleek they look). That alone is a huge deal to me because a lot of my picking involves some muting in the mix. As always, it's a personal preference.

Quick question. Your standard is a 3-tone sunburst burst right? Although it's not always easy to see the true color and finish through pictures, it looks like your standard has more of a brownish red finish (darker) in the center rather than the orange color (brighter) some bursts have. This American Deluxe below seems to be a little brighter:

If the darker burst is a result of a new paint vendor, I will be one happy camper. I'll love whatever I get, but I hope the color fades to the redish brown center like your American Standard seems to do. I think both look stunning, but I'd like the black to fade to a little darker redish/brown finish. I guess paint finishes have some variance from guitar to guitar though. Anyhow, I'll keep you posted!

Hey Lee,

My Custom on the left has the ashtray bridge, I can make it work, but I am so heavy handed with my right hand that it is not the most comfortable for me. Also, with the standard 3 saddle bridge, there is always a compromise with the tuning, which in a way is part of a Tele Charm. It is also cool to put the ash tray on, however, I can't play a lick with it on. The modern bridge is more comfortable to my playing style and is easier to get into tune and tonation. It also looks very nice. Of course the Deluxe has a slightly different bridge with different saddles.

My standard is a 3 tone and the Custom is 2 tone. I am colorblind so it is tough for me to talk about colors. Sunburst is probably my least favorite Tele color, but the guitars spoke to me when I played them regardless of color. The Ash tele I have on order is butterscotch. I do know that depending on the light in the room, the Tele's photograph differently. The grain pattern on my Standard is very pleasant.

I almost bought a 2006 60'th anniversary Tele yesterday. It is Natural ash with a Maple board, and awesome. However, I know that our Deluxes will be here very soon, so I decided to hold off for now. The wife is bugging me for a new kitchen table so I guess my wood budget will be spent another way this week.

Please post pics when yours comes in!

Don

Don,

Although the ashtray bridges may be a little hard to play on, they sure do look pretty neat. As for the 60th Anniversary Telecaster, not an easy find. Hopefully our GAS will subside once the Deluxes arrive. Have you played through the N3 pickups yet?
