Hey guys,

I have been interested in owning another guitar lately. As far as electrics go, I have an Epiphone SG which really Isn't up to standard IMO, but I lug it around as backup because my main guitar is an Ibanez JS1000. Its a great guitar and I have the pups changed in it, but I am really going off floyd rose trems. I bought it in my days of playing in an experimental metal/rock band. Now I play in a blues/soul/funk band. I really want a solid versatile guitar that I can break a string on and carry-on playing - I can't do this with my current guitar!

I really want a Tele Thinline. I was gonna go for one of the models with 2 humbuckers as I am really used to playing with humbuckers. Other models I liked where the Nashville deluxe or blackout, the idea of 3 single coils seemed like it would offer a lot of sound shaping and versatility, but I really am not sure about getting away completely from humbuckers.

Then I seen Tele's that had a humbucker on the neck and a single coil on the bridge and I really liked that idea, but I can't seem to find any like that with an F-hole.

Is there such thing as a Thinline Tele with a humbucker and a single coil?

Any other suggestions are welcome.

Thanks for your time,
Steve.

Actually, just after I posted this I stumbled across this model...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250683048131#ht_3220wt_1162

Can anyone tell me more about this kind of model and other variations that might be out there? I also have no idea what the reputation of Japanese made models are. Again, I am looking for a thinline with humbucker and single coils.

Thanks guys!

Steve.

I don't know anything about the model but that's just because teles aren't really my thing (sorry guys  ) but as far as the reputation of Japanese made guitars I have heard that they Are very good and some say are better then the American models.

Hope I helped and good luck with the guitar.

The Thinline had single coil Tele pups from '68 til late '71 where they switched to 2 humbuckers til '80 when they were discontinued.Although it's not a Thinline the Albert Collins model has a neck humbucker and Tele bridge pup.The '72 Telecaster Custom import also has a neck bucker and Tele bridge. They were made from'86-'99 in Japan and from 'oo-'08 in Mexico and you should be able to pick up a good used one from $450-$650.An Albert Collins would set you back from $1,250-$1,450.The California Fat Tele had a neck Tex-Mex bucker and Tele bridge and goes for $475-$575.Although these models don't have the Thinline's F holes they have the other criteria you wanted. The Set-Neck Country Artist Tele also had this layout and goes for $1200-$1500.The Tele Custom(2nd Edition) had that layout but were made from '72-'81 and can be worth up to $3300.Hope this info is of some help anyway the only other option is to retrofit a Thinline or get a one-off Custom Shop model.

They made a single coil thinline, and a thinline version of the Tele Deluxe (should have been called the Thinline Deluxe") w/ 2 WR buckers, but no "Thinline Custom" version of the 70's Tele Custom w/ WR bucker at neck and single coil bridge. At least, there have been none in the regular factory production models available in the US of which I am aware.

As mentioned above, there have been various CS versions with the pickup configuration you desrcibe.
