I was hoping someone can help me with this. I recently purchased a used 2000 fender telecaster USA with a vintage neck.Note-The body is dated 1999 & the neck 2000. By accident when cleaning the neck I got a piece of masking tape stuck on the front waterslide decal logo which took the letter "f" off. I called a fender dealer to try to order a new sticker and he asked me for the serial number. k. To my suprise there is no serial number! Nothing engraved on the back of the headstock? But all the signs of the guitar being a American model are there. I am going to post 8 pics. Note: some added details-previous owner said the store he bought it from had installed a Gibson humbucker, kluson vintage tuners (stamped japan underneath), all internal pots and wireing appear to be authentic and look like my american strate inside. If anyone could let me know what they make of it, it would be appreciated. wondering if it was made by fender us factory or parts assembled together by store? Thanks, mike

Hi cuzzmike,

Do you have a closeup of front and back of headstock? Shouldn't the US model have 22 frets and Gold logo? My 09 Am Std has 22 frets, Gold logo, made in USA under logo, SN on back of headstock. The decal should be under the finish and unaffected by tape, that's a clue. ;) I am not sure that you have a US neck. :( The extra routed hole in the neck pocket of the body isn't usually on the US models of Strats, although I haven't taken my neck off to check my Tele. I am not a Tele expert, just my thoughts about it. :)

Edit: I just looked on the eBay statosphere store, and their US bodies DO have the extra routed hole. :)

That's a neck from an American Vintage '52 reissue. You said it yourself, "USA with a vintage neck". 21 frets, heel truss adjust, and the round string tree are the tell-tale clues. Therefore, the decal is applied on top of the finish just as Fender did back in the old days. As you found out, you got to be careful with the decal.

As for serial number: the AVRI '52s have their serial number stamped on the face of the bridge just as Fender did in 1952. The neck was seperated from the original body, so it is unknown what serial number was originally mated to the neck.

The neck still has its factory inspection stickers on the heel, so maybe Fender can use that as proof its the real deal and arrange for a replacement decal for you. Have you sent these pics to Fender customer service? I wish you luck with getting this resolved.

metropolis74, Thank you for your help. I spoke to one of the salesperson keith at Sam Ash who I deal with over there yesterday. He left me a message today that he spoke to fender & told me to bring in pictures of the front & back, headstock & serial number. I was just waiting for help. Now it makes sense about where the serial number would have been. I hope they will accept this. I will kepp you posted about the final outcome. Once again thank you, you help clear up my uncertainty ! Thanks,Mike
