okay i just toook off my pickguard on my MIM Telecaster and there are these three holes drilled in the body of the guitar i cant post a pic but i will try to describe them ,

if you had the tele in a guitar stand the 3 holes would be above the bar where the volume and tone knobs are,

what im wondering is WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY DOING THERE? i bought this guitar used so the prvious owner may have done it, the holes arent big enough to fit in a new switch or a new volume knob, and there arent any ways for wires to get in or out of the holes, what the hell are they?

Well technically, you just did, so I'll make another one later. Yeah I got one on mine too, shape and size of a penny and about half an inch or so deep, yeah I got one. My advice, just leave the pickguard on it and don't worry about it. Better for the guitar anyway. Probably just the guitar's naval or something. Use it to hide a penny for good luck at the gig lol, or maybe your Mercury dime collection. I could prolly use that as a joke, lol stick like 3 dimes in and rattle it and see if anyone figures out what the heck is wrong with it lol.

It is probably there to attach to, like on an assembly line for spraying on the finish, or something like that. It might hang from that hole...

from what I hear, fender drills the holes in bodies to identify different guitar models after cutting in the factory. but you know, I didn't hear it from fender, so it could be wrong.

I think these holes are made by the machines as something like a mark for other models that use these locations. For example the Dick Dale strat has some switches in this area. I don't know any teles with switches though. That's what I gather from it, I'm probably wrong though. My second guess would be weight relief holes, but I doubt it (these things have plenty of weight relief as it is with the big cavities (strats anyway).

Strats are the same way, if these are the holes your talking about???

They're speed holes to make your guitar faster.

(Simpsons, anyone?)
