Just got an American deluxe, and oddly enough really like the original strings. Does anyone know what brand, type and size range they are?

For the past few years they've been strung at the factory with Fender 250's in 9's. 250's have nickle plated steel winding on the wound strings. The plain strings are the same as the original 150's which are nickle wound. 350's are wound with stainless steel.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
