Folks: I am looking at buying a tele, and am drawn to the American Deluxe Ash tele, and the 52 Vintage Hot Rod (I like the idea of the humbucker in the neck position). I will not be playing any lead guitar. I don't have the money for a guitar collection, so versatility is a plus.

Thoughts?

I'd go for the ash,as ash has great sustain and really brings out the "quack" in the guitar.

They're both ash ^^ I own a 52 Hotrod and love it, very versatile. Neck minibucker is very warm and mellow and the tele bridge is hot and aggressive, neck is very fast and comfortable, very nice guitar. I'm sure the Am. Deluxe has its virtues as well, hopefully somebody can chime in because I have had no experience with them as of yet <_<

P.S. Play it before you buy it ^^

I'd say go for the 52 ri. It is pretty versatile and I too love the neck Hbucker. Every time I go to guitar center it is the first guitar I reach for and the one I seem to play the most, and I am not even particularly a humbucker fan.

I have one of each and can't decide on a favorite. I like the 52 hot rod neck pickup for the sweet mellow sound of a neck humbucker, but I like the deluxe ash with the s-1 switch for a more raunch and roll sound. My wife asked why so many guitars, and I told her you can't fix everything with one wrench, you gotta have the right tools for the job  . Try them both before you decide,(that's half the fun) but only you will know when you have found the right one for you. Good luck and be sure to keep us posted on your decision.

both are great guitars !!! I would keep trying both, until your hands and ears decide. You will know once they both agree, good luck! :)

I have the american ash deluxe tele. Has a 52 reissue neck thats pretty chunky but sustain is really amazing. It has the SCNoiseless pickups with the S1 switching. Im curious as to the possibility of swapping out the neck single coil for a humbucker. After pulling the gaurd, the body is routed for a hum from the factory. Now my big decision is which one to go for. I have a true 76 tele deluxe with Seth Lover p/ups....but without measuring yet, think it only will take a "minibucker". So......this is where I need advice? But the guitar is great as is. Feel and sound, medium jumbo frets, not too heavy, balanced, great versatility with the stock pickups. I just cant say enough about technology and how the guitars they're spittin out these days are a far better product if youre willing to pay the top dollar. So good luck and have fun. I love mine, either way!

Wait times for the American Deluxes have been horrendous so if you don't have the patience, go for the 52.

Ive decided Im putting in the seymour duncan vintage mini humbucker in my Am ash tele deluxe. This will be an interesting blend with the s1 switching and the bridge pickup which as well as the hot rod bridge p/u is pretty hot. Ill keep all the stock parts. I cant say enough about these guitars. I have a true 1953 tele, a 1983Dan Smith era, 76 fender tele deluxe, and had a 1978... and this is BY FAR the best sounding and feeling of them all. People who swear by vintage instruments are entitled to their opinions, but modern improvements are what they are. And when they take the old technology and keep what works and throw out what doesnt....apply it with research and development, customer feedback, and market demand....you get guitars like these. This is the best guitar for the money period. Save your $ and dont waste your time on lower grade instruments. This is the time piece youll pass on to your kids and probably will be worth a small fortune....but who cares. Play, feel, listen, and enjoy.

i have an ash American D. I love it! I looked at several teles and fell in love with this one. I play alot of blues and christian and some country. its a perfect rythm guitar as well and has the guts to play lead. Mine has the S1 switch and its amazing. I love teles bc they are so versitile but wasnt crazy about this big twang ha sounds strange i know. the S1 makes it really warm and the neck is like coming home everytime i play this guitar. Its really hot not a humbucking guy personally.. if i was goin to do that get a strat or go all the way with gretch with TV Jones in it. the only tele with humbuckers i played on was a 72. I hated it! lets be honest fender is known for singlecoils and great guitars but not humbuckers like gibson or prs. if you want crunch after market pickups. period!
