Okay, I have the day off thanks to our Veterans, I appreciate all who serve or who have served in the US armed forces and for our allies around the world.

So I decided to get off my lazy butt and do some spraying today. I ended up sticking with the original plan of Sherwood Green. I'll let you all decide if it was beginner's luck the last time around with this color, but I'm pretty pleased with how this is coming along. Thanks to all for your patience. One of these days I'll get a build done in a shorter amount ot time, but for now the turtle's pace will have to do.

It is a really nice day here, about 55 degrees and around 50% humidity when I last checked. I heated the spray can in a bucket of hot water for about 20 minutes before I started spraying. I am spraying outside and had a decent breeze of 5-10mph to contend with. I kept a paper towel in my free hand to try and keep the nozzle clear, and kept the nozzle about 6 - 8 inches from the guitar's surface.

I'll try and get all the clear coats on by the end of the weekend. Then it will be on to the long wait. Looks like my Christmas present will be a lot of sanding to do.

Okay onto the pics, let me know what you think! This color seems to come out more blue in pics, looks much greener to my naked eye ...

Well to my eye that looks like another bloody good spray job right there!

I've tried a spray finish and it not an easy thing to do. Looks like your a natural mate! :D

Good stuff!

Kong,

Any issues on applying the clear coats? And how did you do them?

Inquiring minds want to know...

I haven't started the clear coats yet. The process will be 4 very light coats to lock in the metallic particles. I'll let it dry for 24 hours and then I'll spray on about 4-6 more coats with 2-3 hours between each coat . Last time this process used about 4 cans of clear coat over 3 days.

Then the body will sit for about 30 - 40 days to cure and then I can wet-sand and polish.

Clear coating is finally in process. Did 3 coats yesterday and will do 2 coats today. It is looking good, I'll try and post a pic or two later on today. Then we play the waiting game while it cures.

Does anyone know if there is a way to speed up the curing process without compromising quality. My friend owns an auto-body shop and maybe he could bake it for me, but I don't know if that is a good idea. I really wish I hadn't dragged my feet so much with this build, I'm ready to put her all together but I have to wait

Andy,

I have the following electronic components available to me. Let me know which options I should use or if there is anything else I'll need.

As we discussed I was going with a push/pull pot to split the lower coil from the neck humbucker. As far as instructions, you'll need to keep them simple for me, I can follow a basic diagram, but definitely will need things spelled out. I'm not sure which Cap to use so I bought both Fender and Gibson types. I bought 500K pots, but let me know if I should get 250K pots.

Here is what I have available for the build

Tele 3-way switch
2 Alpha 500K pots
1 Alpha 500K push/pull pot
2 Sprague Orange Drop Tone Caps- .022uf
2 .047uf Sprague Orange Drop Cap for Strat/Tele

Hi Kong,

Cool, There's a couple for things to take into consideration. Here's my thoughts...

There's always a bit of a trade off when mixing Single coils and Humbuckers when it comes to choosing the right pots.

If you use 500k pots your Humbucker on full (or wired in series) should sound quite clear. All good. But the Tele Bridge pup may well be quite bright and maybe a little harsh.

If you use 250k pots The Humbucker may sound dark/muddy (or jazzy to put a positive spin on it!) but the coil tap and Bridge should sound like most other Tele's.

So if it were me, I'd go for 250k pots and the 0.022mf cap. I hope this helps. I can go in to more detail as to why if you wish...

While we're here could you let me know the colours of your Humbucker wires? It would be really handy if it already has two of the wires joined together as that would give me all the info I need to split the lower coil via a push pull.

You shouldn't have any problems reading my diagram. I'll make sure its all clearly laid out. If you let me know the above I'll get started on it! :D

All the best to you and BoK.

Andy

Okay Andy,

First off, thanks again for your generous assistance. Hope everything is well with you and your family.

I'll take your advice and go with 250K pots and .022 cap. I'll be ordering a 250K pot and a 250K push/pull pot. Here is a link to the push pull pot I plan to use.

http://www.guitarfetish.com/Push-Pull-D ... p_646.html

As for the Humbucker, it has the following wires:

A Red wire & White wire tinned together
Green
Black
Bare

Let me know if there is any other info you need. I put the pickups on a multimeter and the humbucker came up 7.57 and the bridge reads 7.44 if that means anything to you

Good stuff Kong. That info is perfect. :D

As its a neck Humbucker, the Green should be the hot (+) and the Black and the Bare wires go to ground (-). Which means the Red and White wires go to the middle terminals of the push/pull. Then we take those to ground via the push/pull and you'll have the lower coil split. :D

Once split the DC resistance will drop to just over half what it was as you'll still get a little bit of signal bleed through the top coil.

And good choice on the pots. Shame to waste that 500k pot.... Though you could always use it to split one or both of the Buckers on your Les Paul... Just a thought.

I'll get to work on the wiring diagram for you tomorrow (as its bed time over here!)

Cheers

Andy
