Between Schaller, Dunlop, Enie Ball, what's the preference for strap locks? I've heard good and bad about all three. Thanks.

Have Dunlops on mine. Works fine. Even threw in a few guitar throws and still holding up nice. I also care for them by cleaning and oiling... I'm sure any of those will work. Main thing I think is that the screws that come w/ the set will be thick enough to sit tight in the existing holes. Other than that, they're strap locks

While I don't have straplocks on my Tele, I have Schallers on my Gibson ES-347, Fender/Schaller on the Strat Ultra, and the Dunlops on the 1970-1971 Stratocaster. I like them all, but the Dunlops are the lightest. The Schallers are the heaviest, but the ES-347 is a beast weighing 9.6 lb. The Fender/ Schallers are somewhere in between, being a smaller version than the Gibson version.

All are reliable. I have never had to clean the Schaller version. But if the Dunlops need cleaning, that sounds like a drawback; I've only had them on this old guitar for 6 months. The Schallers came on the Gibson and the Strat Ultra as original equipment I bought new, and that makes nearly 40 years of experience.

Correction: The Gibson may have Grover Strap locks and were fully installed when I got the guitar. I had to buy the strap portion of the Fender/Schallers to take advantage of the factory installed posts. The Schallers are smaller, but look and feel the same as the Grovers.

I have the Dunlops and they seem very solid. Never had a problem but I also don't go around flipping my guitar over my head either. Don't remember having to clean them though....

Yeah, I don't know how it happens, but I stick a Q-tip in the pegs on the guitar and all this soot and dirt come out. I store my tele in the molded hardcase for it, but the pegs still get dirt in them. (Maybe accumulation from gigging in smokey clubs and what not?)So I clean out the tracks the ball sits in just in case, cuz I'd be super disappointed if it didn't lock correctly and fell on me (happened w/ my Gibson LP...tragic). That's just me tho, and I'm super OCD about my gear

I prefer either Schallers, Marvels, or DiMarzio Cliplock straps.

I've only used Schallers so that would obviously be my preference.

+1

Tried the Dunlops and didn't like how far away from the body the strap sat. so I threw them out and use the Grolsh red tabs and now won't use anything else.

Schaller, Fender, ProLine are all compatible. I have all three on several guitars, they're the only kinds I've used, they work perfectly. :)

I like Schallers for fender guitars, and Dunlop for Gibsons. The Schaller screws seem closer to the factory Fender strap button screw size and the same goes for Dunlop with Gibson. Never had a problem with either brand, but I like the design of the Schallers the best.
