I looked it up on the guitar dater thing and it gave me a really vague answer. Like '07-'08. I just want to know the date it was made. Is there a way to figure this out? I know how to read Gibson serial numbers but I know nothing about Fenders.

Here's the headstock front and back.

The pics are kinda low res I hope you can see what you need. If not ask me and I can post more.

(By the way can you see the light flaming at the base of the headstock? I noticed you can kinda see it in the first pic)

Your best bet would be to contact fender customer service. They are great at helping out with stuff like that.

2007, take the neck off to see if there is a more accurate date stamp.

I was going to ask if I should take the neck off. I've seen pictures of necks taken off with stamps or something at the base.

Is it easy to take the neck off without messing anything up? I've done it on a cheaper guitar with no problem but never on a fender.

The neck pocket is super tight. I've never seen anything like it.

Why do want a more specific date than 2007? Do you want to know when to celebrate your Tele's birthday? :P

Just kidding. The problem with putting an exact "born on date" with Fenders is that they are modular. The neck will have a different date stamp than the body because Fender makes tons of necks and bodies seperately and puts them all on racks waiting for assembly. They pull a neck and pull a body and put them together, both probably weren't made on the same day.

As you found out, the serial number only tells the year to us. If you want to get more specific than year, call Fender customer service as already suggested and they might be able to tell you the date the guitar shipped if you consider that it's "birthday".

Or pull the neck as also suggested and use that date for it's "birthday". It's not hard to do. Just make sure you don't tighten the neck bolts too tight, and be sure to check string alignment before tightening as sometimes the neck can shift in the pocket from it's original place when you put it back in.

If you are hesitant to pull the neck, I'd say call Fender. Or just don't worry about a specific date. It's only the vintage guitar market where people analyze the dates and signatures in the neck pockets, neck heels, and control cavities to scrutinize authenticity.

Thanks I just wanted to know the date out of curiosity.

Thanks for the help. I'm not gonna take the neck off.

I'm pretty sure it's part of the whole revamped Standard thing from 08?

Lol I don't really care that much I just care about how it plays and sounds!

I don't know what they print on the heel of the neck these days but in the 60s they would have something like Feb 2 65 B that meant not that it was made on the 2nd of Feb but that the neck was made in the 2nd week of Feb and that it was a "B"neck-the B designating the neck width with A being the slimmest and C the widest and B was the standard neck used on regular production guitars. As already stated the neck and body and all other parts could've been made months apart so the day it was assembled would be almost impossible to find.
