What year did the American Deluxe Tele acquire the compound radius fretboard?

Thanks!

This year - 2010. I think they were officially released in March.

Prior to this year they had Fender's modern standard radius of 9.5".

Thanks John!

I have a MIA Nashville as my #2, and was looking to add another T. The neck looked promising as I have some Jacksons.

The compound radius necks are truly a real pleasure. No hand fatigue anymore - the new Deluxes make string bending and chording a kid's toy.

The only cons of the new Deluxe necks are the black micarta and white MOP dots on the fingerboard. I prefer much the abalone dot markers of the older models.

As a longtime Charvel-Jackson player I really hoped Fender would adapt some models with those neck shapes (Not exclusively but as an option).

I agree, the aesthetics are a step down. Not a deal breaker, but I gotta say - for the $ of the model - it's a chintzy way out. I mean - like another $3?

I quite agree and I think this is an area that Fender needs to perk up their ears and take note. Right from the start Fender has always tweaked their instruments from time to time for better tone or better playability or whatever but they've always kept the aesthetic variables intact. And that was and has always been the right thing to do. With the exception of a short and misguided CBS flirtation with goofy looking headstocks and logos a Strat has always looked like a Strat, has always looked like a Strat. Same with the Tele. The Abalone dot markers on the AD series was a distictive aesthetic feature of the ADs and it needs to be reinstated as a traditional feature of that line of instruments. People who fork over the cash need (read want) a quickly found visual identifier that this is nicer higher end model. and trying to make the ADs blend in with the lower models is a big mistake. That's the problem when you let the bean counters have too much say in matters. It hurts in the long run far more than it helps in the short run because bean counters are always short sighted and stupid.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

It seems that the AD series has been "standardized" and many of the options found on the previous models such as the locking bridge option for the HSS Strat and the abalone dot inlays have been gone from that series for a couple of reasons.

If you really like the 2010 features and want to combine them with the discontinued options from the previous Deluxes into one guitar, the Custom Shop is certainly a good solution. But you'll probably spend more money for a Custom Shop instrument because of the prices.
