I have a 1991 (Ver 1) Tele Plus. I am wanting to add another more "traditional" sounding Telecaster to my collection. I love the feel of the neck on my Tele Plus (9.5" radius) and am wondering which current neck shape(s) would be closest to mine. How would the Modern "C" shape 9.5" necks compare with my 91's neck?
Thanks,

The current American Standards should be pretty close - maybe a hair narrower (1.685" for the 2008-and-newer ones vs. 1.6875" for the older ones) than your Tele Plus. Also it seems like Fender "modern" necks got a bit thicker sometime in the early to mid 1990s (say somewhere between 1993 and 1995); the current models would be a bit thicker than the older ones. They do have the 9.5" radius neck.

The new American Deluxes (2010 or newer) have a same width as your Tele Plus but they have compound radius neck and a slightly different shape. The compound radius starts at 9.5" and goes up to 15". Of course the older American Deluxes (1998-2009) have a "plain" 9.5" radius neck.

Thanks for the info!
So, other than the possibilities from the S-1 wiring, does the American Deluxe have that same essential tele sound as the American Standard? Pickup differences?

That is in the ear of the listener. I personally have never liked any of Fender's noiseless pickups (I had a 1998 Am Dlx Strat with the Vintage Noiseless and a 2004 Am Dlx with the SCN pickups) as well as I've like their vintage reissue pickups, but that is just me.
