I'm going to be buying my first telecaster soon. I'm going to guitar center and getting the standard telecaster ash body (goes for about 499.99) I know some telecasters are pre-cut with a large pickup hole so as to easily change to whatever pickup you may want, but some come pre-cut set to a single coil.

I want to put in a P90 into my neck pickup, because the sound of it is really cool, and though a P90 is a single coil pickup, it is as large as a humbucker. Does anyone know, before I buy the guitar, if this particular guitar comes with a large or small pickup hole in the body?

This is the guitar http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender-Stan ... 1371856.gc

I don't think so. I think they are cut for the standard pup.

Yep, I went and bought it this afternoon. It is cut large enough to hold a p90.

Try a Squier Custom II they are setup with P90s all ready and sound good, nice neck and especially for $250 its a steal. The pups are good but at that price you could put the best P90s on the market in it and still be cheaper that a MIM Tele

Hey Judzz

Just wondering how the tele is sounding?

Iv been searching around and struggling to find a scratchplate which will hold p90s, how did you do it?

That tele is gonna come alive with that p-90...it darn sure,s got some HONK.
Its gonna take some doing though Im sure. I know there 2 methods of retention of the 90s, 1 being that there,s screws that go thru the pick up itself and actually bolts up to a ferrel thats pressed into the body,Gibson style) or 1 that has dogs ears, which Im sure your gonna use that one. Ive always been curious about that because in my mind, bolting it to the body as oppsed to the plate leans towards a better resonance...I may be wrong though.
Im sure you can find 90s that dont have the bucker housing. The 90 is just one big bad $@! single coil anyway.

IMO...your gonna love the extra umpf from that 90. I know the one that I use defently pushed the frt end of the amp more and is slighty more edgey, but when the tune calls for it, ive got the flavor
