hi guys,

I'm going to buy an american standard tele and I just realized that all standard are 3 pieces made body....I'm disapointed to see this classic model who made the music history is offering so poor quality material.

to have a decent ony piece body guitar I should pay 3X the standard price for a custom shop guitar.

also it looks like the body is routted for 3 pickups (HSH) in all american standard 2010 telecasters (see specifications at fender site).

As we know both multi pieces body and extra large/not used holes for pickups in the body affects the tone....

ok maybe a blind test cannot identify those differences in the tone, but any single point add some negative attribute on the tone.

so that's it??? if a want to onw a good tele/strato should I spent 3X the money or go to a replacement body???
I'm not talking about squiers or entry models MIM, etc

what you thing about it??

Huh? 3 pups in a Tele??? I think you might mean Strat.

And Leo Fender never had issues with the number of pieces of wood used in the making of the bodies. As was previously mentioned, it's how ell the pieces are joined.

A single piece body does not mean it will sound great.

+1

Leo Fender often used multiple piece bodies back in the day to avoid wasting otherwise good peices of wood. If it was good enough for Leo, then it's good enough for me.

Petri, no need to knock MIM Fender's since only the MIM Standards are more than 3 piece (usually 5, which I think is too many). Plenty of good Classic Series MIM's out there with the same number of pieces as their MIA counterparts.

If you are upset at the pickup routing in modern Fenders, then get a vintage reissue. The extra routing is there so Fender can use the same body for SS, HH, or HS models, or if you want to mod it yourself with a humbucker you don't have to take a dremel to it.

I have absolutely no issue with MIM guitars, actually I own a 96' MIM strat, which I love.
But we know MIM are considered entry models to fender world, I was just wondering about have a american made guitars offering almost the same as those less expensive ones.

have a guitar with 3 pickups routing in the body can be a good idea from manufacturing perspective, but I don't think someone will take it as advantage if buying a standard model.
From my point of view, if I wanna a modern (or humbuking) tele I'll go for a different model.

You're right Nevin, according the this chart only 6 models of the 33 "Telecaster" variations made from 1950-54 were made of a one piece body. I just bought a blank body cut to 1952 specs and it is a 2 piece body.

My blond MIM Tele Standard arrived today. Two-piece ash body, black pickguard, Vintage Noiseless 3 pickups; the seam is barely there, runs north to south on the bass side of the guitar. Easier to see it from the butt end. The seam on my American Series Tele runs straight down the middle. The finish on the MIM is not as clear as the AS, looks more old-school from a distance. I'm going to let it settle a bit and compare the sounds, as my AS has Dimarzio Area T's in it. No pics of the MIM, it rained all day.

Changed my mind, here's one pic. Both are considered blond, you'll probably be able to detect the seam down the middle on the American Series on the right. The finish on the MIM (left) is different but I have no clue if this effects the sound. Something else to consider, I thought this was an optical illusion until I measured it - the curve on the American's headstock is larger by 2 millimeters than the thickest part of the MIM's headstock. I have no idea if that's intentional or an anomaly, nor which one is closer to being correct but thought it was worth sharing.

I'm pretty sure my '08 American Standard Tele has a 2 piece body. I can see the seam right down the middle. There are no other seams.

Finding hardwood nearly 13" wide in one piece is extremely difficult these days if not nearly impossible, unless you found some old old planks to build it. Some of the best music in the world has been recorded on Fenders with 2 (or more) piece bodies, its really a non issue, the glue joint is harder than the wood around it. For all practical purposes once its all set that body may as well be one piece. As far as the three pickup cutouts, that one extra route will have very little effect for most peoples ears. If those issues bother you that much and you hear a difference then I guess, yes you'll have to spend three times as much money. Is the tone you apparently hear worth that much more money to you? Sorry not trying to be harsh, but I mean truly do you hear a difference? Just be glad its not a pancake body Les Paul from the 70's then you'd be looking at 4 or more pieces of wood in the body. :D

Regards,

Rev. D.
