I just purchased a Deluxe Nashville Tele. Whenever I choose a single pickup I get what seems excessive hum. I know single coil pickups are noisy when they are played alone (not with another pickup at the same time.) But the hum is almost as loud as the guitar tone itself. I purchased the guitar via Sweetwater mail order.

1..is this normal for a Nashville Tele?
2..did I get a "bad" guitar?
3...if this is normal is there anything I can do to reduce the noise and keep the original sound of the guitar?

Thank you for any help.

I have a couple Nashville's.

Ya, single coil hum or a little buzz is one of those things you live with.

EXCESSIVE...............something isn't right I would say.

Who knows, something with the switch, wiring, ground (s) ??

Does the hum subside some when you touch the strings ??

All pickups bad ??

Did you try a different cable ? Do you have other guitars and how do they work in the room you are set up in.

In position 2 and 4 the hum or buzz should be reduced A LOT as the middle pup is RW/RP.

Is it new ?

First I would like to say thank you for your response.
The guitar is brand new. I tried an SG and a 335 and a Carl Thompson (Carl Thompson with single coil pickups) in the same room - same cable - same amp. Not even close to the hum from the Nashville Tele.

I tried another cable - same hum.
Sweetwater said to send it back and they will check it out.

I have been thinking about putting the Fender Vintage Noiseless Tele pickups and the Fender Vintage Noiseless Strat Middle pick up on the guitar.

Have you heard anything about these pickups - will they give me the same sound?
I don't want to sacrifice the sound for less hum.

Thanks again.

Well vintage noiseless are pretty dang good sounding pups from what I hear.

They would sound quite different than what you have as the Vintage are...........well vintage sounding, twang !!

Tex Mex are a little more ballsy and more for say modern sound and blues.

I have Bill Lawrence Keystones in mine and they are pretty dang quiet and sound FANTASTIC !!!

I would welcome the twang on the bridge pickup. But what about when I have the bridge tele pickup and middle strat pickup together - would I still have that nice "strat type" sound that I am getting now?

Sorry, I couldn't say how that pup will work with your middle.

Let Sweetwater take a look at it, mine is stock and the single coil noise is not that bad, even with earphones.

Cheers,

I am going to send the guitar back to Sweetwater to have them check it out.
I was thinking about changing the pickups to the fender Vintage Noiseless (2 tele and 1 middle strat) pickups? Have you ever heard them?

Thanks for the feedback.
