I have always played Gibson/Epiphone guitars -- I did have an American Strat a couple of years back, but I never really found my sound with it. I just assumed I was humbucker person, or a Gibson person at the very least. So about a month ago I got really bad GAS and bought an Epiphone Les Paul Traditional Pro - Very nice guitar, but it really didn't sound much different than my SG, and the neck is VERY slow !! I took it back to G.C. last night and on a complete wim decided to trade it for a 2010 MIM Telecaster (Arctic White). I had never even touched a tele prior to last night and now I am kicking myself for not doing this a long time ago. What an awesome guiatr !! I really like the bridge pickup (lots of spank even on cleans) and the action on the fretboard is unlike anything I have ever experienced. It already feels like I habe been playing for years !! I don't see too many telecasters available from used sources - tons of Strats of course. Definitely one of the best kept secrets in all of music - And I just have the MIM version, can't imagine what an American model would feel like !!

Have owned US stuff in the past I found to be extremely well made but lacked character, where as the MIM stuff I hacve owned has been hit or miss in quality but never ever lacked character. Bearing in mind I have never paid more than £699 for any solid bodied guitar (new or second hand), and considerably less for my 3 MIM guitars (2 strats 1 tele), my 3 MIMs beat anything I've ever owned.

A guitar tech friend of mine once told me that most guitars can do one or two things well, but a tele can pretty much sound like anything if set up properly - however, very few others can sound like a tele and only a tele can do it properly.

Hope you enjoy your tele as much as I do mine.

Welcome to the forum,
I have both MIM and MIA Teles. Both have their strong suits. I will be honest my MIM is fantastic. I love everything about it and can not believe how little Fender charges for them! I really hope that you enjoy yours as much as I do mine!! Let me know if I can ever do anything for you!

I've got a MIM and a MIA Tele and I use my MIM one 99% of the time. I'm right in the middle of recording a new record and I haven't even brought my MIA Tele to the studio once yet. It's been all my MIM one so far. I have changed a few parts on it, so it's not stock, but it's an incredible guitar and only cost me $299 on a "scratch and dent" sale at Guitar Center. I would have paid way more for it...

Congrats on your Tele.

Wow .. I paid the full $500 for it and am happy at that price, but $300 is fantastic. Plus the blems on most of the scratch and dents I have seen are really minor. What parts have you changed ? Normally I would look to replacing the tuners and electronics - but from what I can tell the tuners seems to hold up pretty well and the pups are (at least the bridge) is a little hotter than a standard pickup, so it actually sounds quite nice. I haven't even changed the strings yet as the tone and intonation were dead on when I bought it.

I'm in the same boat as ABS, I own MIA, MIM, and CIJ Tele's. I love all of them, each serves their own particular purpose. Tell you what though, my Baja stands up extremely well against the others. I have never knocked MIM Fenders, and I never will. Fantastic value for money, new or used (depending on condition of course).
