I'm mainly a Strat guy but I've always wanted a Tele.. well today at GC I saw a used 60th Ann. Sunburst that I plugged into a DRRI and I fell in love! What can you tell me about these Teles? I did a quick search and found there are different 60th Teles out there??

When did they come out? What are the specs?

Fender's 60th Anniversary was in 2006.

Was the Tele you played American or Mexican? How did you know it was a 60th Anniversary? Did it have a silver "60" button on the back of the headstock? All Fender guitars and amps made in 2006 have that little button. They were all regular production models that happen to have that little "60" button. It just could be a plain ol' sunburst Mexican Standard from 2006.

However, if the Tele was an American with a 2 color sunburst and looked like this:
Image than it's the 'special edition' 60th Anniversary American Series Tele.

The only real hardware difference between these and the regular American Series Teles of 2006 is that the special 60th Anny ones have American Vintage Reisssue pickups. The rest of the differences are purely cosmetic.

Thanks for the info! Yeah it's American with the "diamond" on the headstock and 60th ann. neckplate. You know it's weird, it says it has a modern C shape neck, so does my Am. Dlx. but they feel very different.

So it has AV pups, I like the way they sound! But what exactly is this Delta Tone??

That's a sweet Tele!

Yeah that's weird, the neck should be pretty much the same size and feel of your Am Dlx. What year is your Dlx? Maybe spec tolerances changed over the years? But I've never owned an Am Dlx so I'm no expert.

The Delta Tone is a no-load tone pot that is removed from the circuit when turned to "10". There is a little indent you can feel when you turn it off. From "9" on down it acts like a regular tone pot. The idea is that the less components that are in the guitar's circuitry will boost certain frequencies and volume. Make the guitar signal "pure" so to speak. I really don't hear much of a difference between "10" and "9" on the Delta Ton pot. There is a bit more high end maybe a little more "oomph" overall, but not the night and day difference that some advertising literature leads you to believe.

Fender started using the Delta Tone in American Series (now Standard) and Deluxe around 2000 I think. So your Deluxe might have it if it's newer than 2000. Feel for the little indent when you turn the tone knob to 10.

I felt the indent right away and asked the salesman but we both had no idea what it was :) I didn't really notice a difference either, but it does sound sweet! My Dlx is a 2010 and has the compound radius fretborad, that might make a difference...

I'll some pics and post later.

Thank you, metropolis74. I've been trying to get the word out about those little metal buttons for a while now. Every time I see, "50th Anniversary" or "60th Anniversary" fill in the blank and find out it just has a little button I want to choak someone. Well not really choak someone, but I do want the seller to give correct info.
