Heya, I was wondering if the '72 deluxe ever came from the factory in lake placid blue with the maple fretboard. Any help, pictures, links, etc. would be great. Thanks!

Regarding your question, I never saw the '72 Deluxe in this colour. But you can refinish a '72 Deluxe in Lake Placid Blue if you want.

I've found a photo of a '72 Deluxe in the Lake Placid Blue finish. Not exactly an original Tele Deluxe, but a partscaster assembled from different parts and accessories. This guitar is not mine.

Thanx for the help chromeface. I guess that'll be the way to go.

So related question: if I were to buy a mexican standard tele and route it for humbuckers and controls, then put a '72 pickguard on, how far off from the original would that be? Were there any big dimension differences besides the cavities?

Warmoth sells Telecaster bodies routed for H/H and CBS "large headstock" Stratocaster necks. He also offers pickguards for '72 Customs, Deluxes and Thinlines.

You can decide yourself if you prefer keeping the stock hardtail bridge or putting a whammy bar.

Is there any site with finishing instructions that you would recommend? The only thing I've ever finished was a home made five string fretless bass, but I just slapped a few coats of lacquer on it.

Also, do you know where I can get the Fender full range humbuckers?

I've no idea about Wide Range humbuckers, but I suggest you to install better-sounding humbucking pickups such as the Seymour Duncan "Seth Lover" SH-55. This humbucker works especially well with maple and ebony fingerboards. Note: not recommended for use with ultra high gain tube amplifiers over 50 watts.
