I have several Fender Teles and have now resorted to luthier'd bodies.

Why doesn't Fender have a Tele body with Strat contours? I'm sure they have a reason but everyone that plays mine love it more than my standard Tele bodies. I know I certainly do.

Yah, but I would never buy one. If I wanted humbuckers, I'd get a Les Paul.

Two singlecoils = Telecaster sound.

Maybe when I get my own signature line I can make it happen. :)

Or you could do like may people and build one from parts. Wamoth makes a nicely contoured Tele body.

That's what I'm basically doing now. I have a few Teles - 2 from parts, 2 completely original. It's not that I *NEED* another, just curious why they don't offer a standard tele with contours.

Just doesn't make sense...

There are several Teles available with countoured bodies and single coil pickups. Most have the word "deluxe" in thier name.

The USA Deluxe Tele has a countoured back, as does the MIJ Deluxe Tele.

Also, the CIJ Aerodyne tele fits the bill...

That's CLOSE. But do (or did) they make one with the arm bevel?

The only Teles I'm aware of (other than one off Custom Shop) Tele's with front and back contours was made in 1954 for Hank Penny (had 2 made for him) as well as the Jeff Beck copy.

But I'm not aware of them making (at least current model) a Tele with top and back contours. Hell, Guitar Center with all of their "wisdom" says NO Tele was EVER made with any contours.

And like I said, I can always buy another Tele and swap out bodies. But I'm curious to the reason they don't make any with both contours. Is it a mass/sound thing?

Thanks for the tip on the deluxe models though. I'll try one and see how it feels...

those are mighty fine looking Tele's you got there. From the pic, I don't see the arm bevel due to the angle.

I'll have to give up on GC being my only source for guitars. The sales reps are useless...

Where did you pick those up? I may have to pick up a couple...

Thanks!

The source for almost all my guitars is eBay, where the variety available is almost as limitless as your imagination.

Of course, you have to be prepared to buy guitars without playing them, but in my experience so long as the seller has very good feedback and there are a reasonable number of photos of the guitar in question in the listing, the risk of buying a dud is extremely low. 8)

By the way, the arm bevel on these guitars is not as pronounced as a Strat, but it is there.

nice guitars. I think Fender wants to keep with the tele vibe and keep from pricing them too high. They should make a speacial run of contoured teles and overprice them just to see how they do. I'd hate to see them replaced by contoured ones, just doesn't seem righ, but that's just me.

I kind of prefer the non-contoured bodies because for some reason I like the feeling that I am fighting with my guitars a bit while playing, and with a contoured body, I just don't get that same feeling.
