So (I'll try to make a long story as short as I can, no guarantees) I'm hoping I'll have a nice paycheck coming up. That works out great because I've been going through a terrible GAS attack the last few months and that, of course, means I'll be more than likely buying some new gear.

Now, when it comes to buying gear, I'm a bit scatterbrained, always looking for something new while also reopening doors I've closed in the past (meaning reconsidering owning something I'd never thought I'd own/did own and hated/whatever and so on).

There are a few guitars on my mind. I'll just briefly list them and a bit of reasoning/thinking as well:

- G&L Tribute Rampage: Love Kahlers and hate Floyds, need a good guitar with a hum that I won't hate (I've been able to fault every Epiphone I've had in some way or another and it just sours the guitar for me; Gibsons aren't that much different to me either although I've loved every Firebird and Nighthawk I've tried out that I didn't have the money to buy), hard to mess up (one hum, a volume pot, and a locking trem; so simple, a vegetable can understand it), plenty of open space to personalize the guitar with

-Lake Placid Blue Fender Strat with a Maple Neck: LOVE the appearance of LPB on maple; such a guitar has been a twinkle in my eye for a few months now; it would have to be a Partscaster

-Aria Diamond Something-T/Epiphone ET-270: Found a weird mashup of these two guitars locally in a shop for sale, it's cheap and vintage but it has a lot of wiring issues and it would ultimately be a project

-Squier MIJ '80s Bullet: A bit quirky and it didn't sound bad, awesome quality and it's currently priced well below value

And now for the guitar that's responsible for me starting the whole thread ... a Fender MIM Telecaster.

I've been on a big Zeppelin kick lately and really digging the way a Telecaster can rock, thusly I've been looking around for a decent, cheap Telecaster to pop up on my radar for me to snap up.

So, I went to my local guitar shop up the road to take a friend of mine there to buy some strings for this funky old Teisco he bought for $50 bucks today (this is the shop that has the old Bullet). I started talking to the guy who runs it a bit, mention I'm looking for a cheap Tele, and he says he has a brand new '09 MIM Standard that he would let me have for $429 cash.

It didn't sound bad and I wouldn't feel too bad about throwing a mini-bucker in it.

It seems like a good deal and it's something I am chewing on ...

Any input? I'd like a bit of feedback.

Cheap telecasters are all over the place. I would hold out until I found THE ONE.

You can get a new mexican standard for 499.

+1 I have a MIM Tele and it is an excellent instrument. I bought it new last year and really love it! When I teach that is the guitar I am using. I also have a couple MIA Teles and Strats...absolutely love them too! But, that said, the guitar has to speak to you. It is no good to have a guitar that doesn't grab you by the collar and keep you there..:)

I love the unique tone of the all-rosewood Fenders, however my shoulders won't let me bear the extra weight of one.

It's a little more than what I want to spend too. So far, I have a budget of $450 and under on whatever I buy next.

Get one of those.

Or your pick of Squier Classic Vibe:

MF has a Tele FSR run going, ash-bodied MIMs with Vintage Noiseless installed (I have a 2004 AmSndrd Strat with those pups, so I'm all about the VNs). As far as noiseless or near-noiseless goes, I just had some Dimarzio Area Ts installed in a Tele and the guitar is actually useable now, so I'm thinking about adding one of those MF FSR Teles.

Mate, played one of those Classic Vibes at the store the other day, I have an american special and whilst the feel was different (thinner neck and LOW LOW action) it sounded like a tele, sounded sweet.

If you're looking for a good cheap buy I can't recommend the Classic Vibe's enough

Another vote for get the MIM ... I have a couple (you need 'em in different colors of course :) and they're great. Lots of good suggestions posted already and in fact I got my two MIM Teles (and an MIM Strat) on EBay and so far, never a problem.

I've had a MIM standard Tele for about 10 years now and it's been nothing short of fantastic. I upgraded to a Rio Grande tall boy in the bridge, and SD Quarter Pounder in the neck position. Now it's a complete monster Tele, but still sounds like a Tele. Love it.

Now I have needed some basic maintenance done to it over the years. Like a crackling pot/volume knob. And once it got to where the neck pup would just crap out. So I had new wiring maintenance done. But overall it's been great. I doubt you'll be disappointed. I love mine! And I've owned two Americans over the years as well. One standard and the other a 52 RI. They were definitely better guitars, no question. But the little MIM Tele is still great and a road dog at that.

And by the way, you can get them left and right on ebay for $300 to $350 or so. Not brand new but in practically new condition. I recommend it.

I have an 04 MIMTele and I wouldn't dream of changing the pups or anything else as it sounds that good and it absolutely sings going through my Blues Jr. cranked up just a tad.

I bought the GC FSR BB Tele and have been very happy with the sound and looks of it. It's a keeper.

Well, I found a G&L Superhawk for a cheap price and couldn't pass it up.

After I hunt down my next Superhawk, I think the Tele will pop up on my radar again ...
