I have a 2007 MIM Tele standard and am going to have a friend of mine do some work on it.

I want to put a humbucker in the neck position. Any suggestions on which one works best. I play mostly classic rock and "outlaw" country style stuff and all rhythm, no leads (at this point).

Also gonna out new strings on whikle we are there. I like 10's for a bit thicker sound. What do you guys like to use?

Frankly, I think a Duncan Pearly Gates in the neck would be a perfect choice for your requirements.

FWIW, I've been using 9s since 1968. A tweak of the amp will make my 9s sound like 10s, 11,s, 12s or whatever.

I've been using 8-38s since they were introduced and get lots of "thick" tone from them.Only if you go to the cable size 12s or 13s that SRV used will you find a noticeable difference in tone.Your guitar's and amp's eq will more than compensate for any tonal variations.

Go with a low-output humbucker so it won't overpower your bridge pickup. One of the favorites out there are the Seymour Duncan Seth Lover, 59, and the Antiquity. Stay in the 7.5-8k range. The makers often spec the output of pickups in the websites.

10s are a nice middle ground, won't hurt trying. By the way, I haven't found 9s that sound like 10s and vice-versa or any amp setting that might compensate for the smaller mass in the strings (or I'd be still using 9s). But that's another discussion...
