Should the S-1 switch functon in all 3 pickup toggle positions, or center positon only??

Various youtube demo videos show S-1 being applied in all 3 toggle postions, and some only in center position.

What is the S-1 functonality for the 2010 Amer. Deluxe with N3's?

Thanks. The diagram is for a Strat with 5-way. I have a Tele with 3-way so I think it doesn't apply

I am an idiot !

I had been reading some on the Strat forum and had that stuck in my head and lost track of which forum I was on.

Some might leave the S 1 in or out as they flip around the sel. switch but being the switch only effects BOTH pups together, (putting them in parallel or in series) position 2 is the only place that would occur. Putting two single coil pickups in series gives a little more powerful, fatter tone.........similar to a humbucker.

In other words it doesn't matter if the S 1 is in or out when using pos. 1 (bridge ONLY) or 3 (neck ONLY)

Set your amp up with a little distortion and set the sel. to pos. 2 and play with the S 1 switch in and then out......you'll hear what I mean.

hope this helps:

Thanks way much.

I am at peace, finally.

BTW, this is the easiest playing fine solid body I've ever had.

I own a US deluxe tele with the S-1, it does indeed fatten up the tone just a bit in the center position, Im good with that, what Im not good with is the fit of the knob against the pot shaft. It fits loose, when you use the knob as I do for control of dynamics all night at where ever the gigs land, I need the knob to be stable. I kknow why the knobs fits the way it does and thats because of the thru design of the pots shaft for the activation of the S-1 switch. I know what the fix is but in my mind,I shouldnt have to, especially when you drop $1399 on the thing, and take it back to GC where I bought it and they just cant/wont fix it, they tell me to send it back,,,,what? for a loose fitting knob?

Bottom line......great concept on the S-1 switch
Bad design...............it is what it is....... but I will continue to BUY AMERICAN!

File a flat spot on the shaft for the set screw to lock on.
You could also use Loctite (blue) thread locker on the screw.

With the switch up, you have the regular Tele pickup selection.

1) Bridge
2) Neck and bridge - parallel
3) Neck

with the switch DOWN position 2 gives Neck and bridge in SERIES

which gives a fatter more powerful tone similar to a humbucker pickup.

same thing as Fenders 4 way switch.

I like this idea. Can you buy kits to put on a standard? I'm assuming it should work with the standard pick ups, as it sounds like you're saying it's just a matter of being wired differently, and the special knob to control it.

I would say the lest expensive way to go is the 4 way switch (about $16). The S 1 switch is a little more expensive and used to be hard to get. You would also have to get different knobs

It is really a simple job.

There is a mod you have to do to your neck pickup to have a separate coil neutral wire. See the bottom of the page from this link:

Thank you! This has given me something to think about. I didn't even know there was such a modification.
