Hi all,

My local music store is selling a used American Tele. The color is blue. The Fender website does not offer the American Standard in blue. Was there ever a blue American Standard?

Thanks

Hi.

I am sure at some point in the last 60 some years of making Tellis that they can in many different shades of blue, from sonic blue to blue burst and so on.

What year and serial number may help us to narrow it down some. a picture can help as well.

It could also be the previous owner had it painted blue as well.

There is also this one that is the Standard Telli, but it is a MIM unit.

There were a variety of blues, blue-greens, teals, etc. used over the years on American Standard (1986-2000) and American Series (2000-2007) Teles. Knowing the year would help; if you can get us the serial number we can get pretty close. Better yet, email the serial number to Fender to see if they can turn anything up for you.

You are correct that the current American Standards (2008-present) do not come in blue.

It is a 2004 model. It also has a neck humbucker. The volumn knob is also a switch. Pull up or push down to change between the humbucker or single coil. What is this configuration called? It has a 3 way switch.

I'm pretty sure this was called the "American Series HS Tele"; the switch in the volume knob is an S1 switch that splits the neck humbucker. Seems like this model was out circa July 2003- sometime in 2006. The color is probably "Chrome Blue"; that was used on the HSS and HH Strats of that era as well as the HS and HH Strats. If I'm remembering correctly they started out with a pickguard then later the pickguard was removed.

Edit: I did a quick google search and found that this model is still up in Muscian's Friend's archived pages; here is a photo of the chrome blue/maple neck:

I think there Chris just to confirm it for you why not PM me the name and phone number of the store.

Just to be safe.

Good deal; these are pretty rare so post some photos when you can.

Does yours have the pickguard or is it the no-pickguard version?

Nice; I like your's better with that white pickguard than the one I found in the MF archives with the black pickguard.

That Taylor is an interesting piece as well.

There were quite a few unusual colors in the shops around the mid 1990's that included some nice blue finishes. I don't know what the blue I kept seeing then was called but it's not like the blue finish in any of the pictures posted so far.

The blue finish looks factory to me. I can't find a website that lists the colors available at the time this guitar was in production.
