hi guys, "saudaçoes" from Brazil,

I'm going to USA in the begining of august (miami and orlando) it will be my first visit to USA, and I'm looking for a real tele and appreciate your help on finding some good stores and advices on many tele models.

Today I own a fender strat MIM (with alnico pickups) and a epi les paul standard (with SD seth lover pickups) plugged into a fender blues JR, I love both, but now I'm looking for a tele, I have started playing with a brazilian made tele, but it's not with me anymore.

I know two big and famous stores from USA Samash and guitar center and for sure will visit both, but I'm just wondering if there's another good stores to find good guitars with good prices, I'm considering buy a used one as well.

I know about some different models and specifications, the first idea was to get a american made tele, but I have found some good alternatives:

- a used American standard...or
- a baja tele
- american special

I'm gonna play all of them and decido also about feeling and expecting to spend about 800 to 1000 USD on that.

what is the best tele I can get with this money??? and where is the best place to buy it?

Basically I play blues and classic rock

tks

I just bought a Highway 1 Texas Telecaster which I like very much. It is based on the 52 Tele. It has solid 12 degree radius maple neck, tall jumbo frets, ash body, hot vintage pickups. Made in USA. $899 at Guitar Center and online stores. Good luck.

Baja Tele IMHO is the best out of all of those, myself I would try hard to find a used 52 reissue even if you have to shell out a bit more. Just my 2 cents worth ^^ As for best place to buy, depends where your at, I prefer local stores, haven't had much experience with Samash or GC so I can't really say much bout them ^^

Yes, from USA. The Texas Tele best fit the features I wanted. Such as: thin body finish, one piece maple neck with jumbo frets, rolled edges, ash body, hot vintage pickups, neck felt good. I didn't really consider the special or standard. I was really conflicted over the Baja, but settled on the Texas. Good luck in your search! :)

Thanks. The Hwy 1 Texas Tele is not in production anymore, so it's becoming a classic now. I really like it. The sound out of it is beautiful. :)

If you are coming all this way to get an American Tellie, then without a doubt you need to get Amereican deluxe.

It is the evolution of the tellie, with the compound radius fretboard to the S-1 circuit and the M3 noiseless pick-ups, it's as close to perfect as it comes.

I love my American Standard that I just got. It's an 08 and I got it used for $650. The Deluxe is really sweet too. If you buy used you can afford a really nice model and save a bunch of money. Look on craigslist and you can find awesome deals.

Here's my Tele

i wouldnt bother coming all the way here to look for a guitar. go on line or buy local. have them order it even.
save your airfare cash and put it towards a higher end tele, a sweet amp, or effects.

thank you guys about the comments

Jeffytune
american deluxe looks really nice, but 2K USD is not possible to spend now, will try to find out some used.

way cool jr
I'm not going only to get a new guitar, it gonna be a vacation trip.
Even if I was only interested on buy a new guitar it may not be a bad idea, here I can found good guitar but I'll give some instances.
new strat MIM standard cost about 1400 USD, gibson les paul standard 6600 USD.
the difference is basically related to taxes. crazy but true

Dub-T-123
nice guitar and very good deal I believe. As I told, here we have to pay much more money to the same guitar.

GTG
so now american special replaces HW1???? all the features are really nice specially vintage hot pickup

CAPO
I saw some reviews on youtube and the baja are now on my wishes list, I have to try one.
I was not considering the 52 reissue just because I'm concerned about 7,25 radius neck, I can bend it without getting cut?????

On a 7.25 radius neck you sometimes have to go with a higher action if you like to do 2 step bends in the higher registers. It also may not feel as fast and easy to play as larger boards. That being said, it's about the sound, and if you find a good 52 RI you'll see what I mean. If you have the opportunity to play one in your price range, do it, you shouldn't write off one of Fender's best without playing it first ^^

Petri, I'm brazilian too and I've done the same trip as you a couple times (last one in 2006). I'd definitely take the Baja if I was there now (or an used Classic Series, but that's another story).

But take this as advice: they are not so easy to find. A friend of mine went to FL in March and he went to 3 big stores and he couldn't find a single Baja Tele to try. Lots of Highway 1s, American Specials, Standards, American Standards, but don't raise the hopes too high about finding the Baja. It's a vacation trip and you will have little time to search around. I'd start to consider other options. I'd discard the "used guitar" option as well: you won't find a wide variety of them in big stores (if you find at all), and pawn shops usually have only guitarras fuleiras  .

The HW1s are still produced, but the specs are really close to the American Special - the biggest difference are the pickups. The Nashville Tele and Thinlines are cool options IMO.

Iago,

got your point...let's hope I can find some good used guitars available during my visit, otherwise I gonna get a brand new tele, it seems like a not easy job

thinline and nashville are not in my list since I'm looking for a
"classic looking" tele.

from where are you over here?? I'm from the south (SC) but living in Sao Paulo
