Hi, I'm a newbie when it comes to guitar tech, so is it possible to change the headstock on a Squier Telecaster Custom 2 to a Fender Telecaster deluxe headstock?

I don't want to seem like a name snob, I just wanted to know if it was possible

I don't see any option but to change the whole neck. The Squier is not a 3-bolt neck so you can't just put a Deluxe on it. You'll have to buy a 70' Strat neck or order one on Warmoth.

You can't without changing the whole neck, and that's a lame $@! move. Buy a Fender Tele, you wont fool anyone that you have a Del. Tele with those cereamic pups and general Squier quality.

Squiers are fine axes, dont be a $@!&*.

Eh, I'm not being harsh. I just swear a lot :D

And most corners of the internet I hang out in are a bit less censored than here so I'm not used to holding back.

As the others have stated it's a no go,if the neck feels comfortable why change the headstock anyway. Most people don't take notice of what's on the headstock but what the guitarist sounds like.Even a $100 Walmart special will sound like a million bucks in the hands of a great musician. The best thing to do is pay attention to your playing not what's on the headstock.

I think there is some confusion over semantics. You do not want to literally replace the whole headstock (that's impossible, get a completely new neck), you just want to replace the "Squier" decal on the face of the headstock with a "Fender" one, right?

Yes changing the decal is possible, but not worth it for a few reasons:
1. You'll have to sand off the Squier decal, taking off some of the topcoat finish with it.
2. You'll have a hard time finding a forged Fender decal and they can be very pricey. Fender doesn't sell their decals obviously to deter counterfeit guitars.
3. After applying the new decal, you'll need to shoot some coats of laquer and wet sand over the new decal and the spot that you sanded previously to get the old decal off in order for the face of the headstock to look new again.
4. You'll be a poser. Be proud to play your Squier!

If you really want the BIG headstock look of the Tele Deluxe, then check out www.warmoth.com or other guitar neck makers or scour ebay for parted out 72 Tele Deluxe necks. You'll need a whole new neck, and be warned it might not fit in your Squier's neck pocket. Maybe you just should have saved up for the Tele Deluxe if that is what you really wanted all along. Good luck!

You can't just switch necks from the Tele Custom to a 70's Strat neck, well not if you're looking for a perfect fit anyways... I looked into it before because I had the same idea just because I like the look of the CBS era headstock

It says the the heel shapes are different on Tele and Strat necks. Like Teles are square and Strats are rounded and that a Strat neck can fit on a Tele but will have gaps... so I guess it's possible but if you want something with the Fender name on it just get an actual Tele Custom neck

Hope this helps or makes sense

honestly, i would just leave it alone. you might open a can of worms if you do.
when you change necks on a guitar, you will also change playability and tone to some degree. sometimes a whole lot sometimes not so much.
no way of telling. that "thin headstock" is as much of tele look as the body shape itself. i wouldnt mess with it.

Most places I've checked a new neck will run you about the same (give or take) what the guitar cost. The way I see it what would be the point. Why not save the money you'll spend and get something with a bigger neck. If that's your biggest hang up.

BTW why would you buy a guitar if you didn't like the neck? I don't understand why anyone would do this. If I were buying a new guitar and didn't like the neck I'd just keep looking until something I was looking for came along. It took me 3 months before I bought my first Tele before I found the one that I knew was the one. That and doing your homework about what you want helps as well.

Also if the fact it has Squier on the headstock bothers you would you buy a car that looked like a Benz and put the Benz logo on it? I guessing not. so why do it with a guitar. Just be happy with the guitar you have and save for the guitar you want and don't mess with a good thing as others have posted before me. You just might end up screwing up and the guitar may never be the same.

Sorry if I seem harsh but just stating my 2 cents.
