I recently bought a Vox AC15C1 - Love it! It sounds great with my Am Std. Strat with Hot Noiseless pickups. However with my HWY 1 it sounds really "ice picky. I have to roll the Tone Cut and Treble almost all of the way off to get any decent tone - and then I'm not really satisfied.

Couple of questions:

1) Does anyone really like the HWY 1 pickups?

2) I've been thinking about the Vintage Hot Noiseless - anybody like these, and are they warmer?

3) Any suggestions?

Thanks everyone.

I'd really like to not add another pedal to the chain. I'm currently running a TU3 tuner>EB Jr Volume pedal>TC Nova Delay (waiting on my TIM Overdrive).

More interested in a pickup swap.

Let's go Mountaineers!

then run the swap. after, check out that pedal. i dont know of another pedal that allows you more control over tone than that one.
keep us posted on what you swap too.

The stock Highway 1 pickups are fabulous pickups. Rewire to get rid of that Greasebucket circuit and you will understand.

I found it very difficult to dial in a tone I liked with the Greasebucket Circuit. After I rewired to remove it I have been able to dial in a couple of tones I like.

I have a 09 HWY1 and would never dream of changing the pups. They are IMO incredible pups and really shine. I absolutely love them. I would recommend maybe working more with them before changing them out.

I agree w/ ABS. The stock pickups are really versatile and close to "true" Tele Sound (at least to my ears). I just adjusted the eq of my amp to edge off the treble a bit. I also leveled out the neck pup (raised the top to get more volume from my lower strings) and it gave it the illusion of a bit more bass. Good luck w/ what you decide to do.

Ditch the Greasebucket circuit and upgrade your cap and it'll definitely take some of the edge off. The Highway 1 pickups are just a bit hot for my personal tastes, but they'll sound 100 times better if you do that simple and inexpensive upgrade.

Like anything else with guitars, it's all a matter of preference. I like the greasebucket circuit alot.
