Hey guys new to Telecasters, currently play prs. My question is can a tele deluxe handle sounds such as bb king, bon jovi and nickelback. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Thanks, Rod

Playing Nickelback on it would be disrespecting the Telecaster.

You are used to playing a humbucker guitar and you are asking about music mostly played with humbucker guitars. The Tele is a single coil guitar and while I disagree that it would be an insult to make the attempt I do tend to doubt the attempt would be successful.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Ya, generally if you want to emulate the sounds of these artists, you would want to have a similar setup as they do...which I haven't seen them w/ Teles. PRS would put you closer to what you want I think. I wouldn't know. I play a Tele.

You can play anything on a Tele, or any other guitar model for that matter. But will it sound exactly like the artist you are trying to emulate? Most certainly not. That depends a lot on amps, pedals, microphones... a long list. And I won't even mention the player himself (just mentioned  ).

Unless you're playing a humbucker equipped Tele Deluxe you won't have much luck getting the sounds of the artists that you listed.Even if your Tele is the H.H. model Fender humbuckers sound pretty different from Gibson or PRS and you still would have a hard time chasing the tone you want.

I once heard "you can make a Tele play like an SG, but you can't make an SG sound like a Tele."

I believe it, disregarding some details.

I use my Tele for metal all of the time, and I know that it's a beast with distortion, you can play any kind of rock with it, BJ or Nickelback. I also like to play slow, easy blues with it, and it's great for it. I use the neck pickup and turn the tone knob down a bit, works like a charm.
