Hi guys,

I play a tele american standard, my amp is a soldano hot rod 50.

My band plays rock-type music.

When I play my tele through the Soldano, it sounds thin. When I plug in my epiphone with the JB installed, it sounds perfect to me. However, I don't like the feel of the epiphone.. I love the feel of my telecaster.

Is there a pickup similar to this I could replace in my tele to get that crunchy sound?

I really don't know much about pickups, so I have come here for your help/sugguestions. Any help would be appreicated.

Thanks!

The closest Tele production pickup I've heard to a JB is Duncan's Hot Stack for Tele. Aside from this, you could have Duncan's Custom Shop make you an outright JB for Tele.

So you want a JB sound in a single coil size: theres an app for that. Well, theres a pickup for that. Called the JB jr. LINK

Unfortunately some Strat bridge pups don't line up well in certain Teles. I know it doesn't make sense but it does happen from time to time and I have specifically heard of the JB Junior having missalignment issues on Teles, particularly on the E strings where both E strings will be far enough off the pole centers that they are quieter than the other strings. Duncan does make another bucker for the Tele in the Li'l 59 which is basically a Gibson 59 PAF squeezed into single coil size.

Well, I don't know that it is a universal law that Teles can't accept Strat bridge pups so you can't be faulted for not thinking of it. Both guitars use a similar size pup and both are slanted and have similar string spacings. I only learned of it when an aquantance specifically tried the JB Junior in his Tele a few years ago. Prior to that time I assumed any Strat bridge pup would fit into a Tele. Of course, Tele pups in a Strat is a completely different story with the base plate being so different and all. I imagine a Tele bridge pup could be installed in a Strat only if the cavity was altered. I wouldn't say that's for sure as I have never known anyone to try.

Can anyone tell me in there opinion, which would sound closest to the JB?

Hotstack
Hotrail
lil'59

I am looking for a good crunch when palm-muting, i also need my leads to cut. I play rock music. no metal.

Martian says Hot Stack. I have not tried that pup so I can't say but I can tell you he is quite knowledgable about these things.
