I have a 2006 mim standard tele. My friend has an mim strat from the same year that has a small 60th anniversary diamond shaped plaque on the back of the headstock. What is this? And why doesn't my tele have one?

Hi Guitarfreak and welcome to the forum. In the production year 2006, Fender produced both from their American and Mexican plants, the regular Stratocaster, plus a number of extra 60th aniversary edition. Should be the same for the Tele. So it is perfectly normal to see both regular and 60th Strats and Teles for that year. Hope this helps. :)

I've also heard that all 06 guitars had a small plaque on the back of the headstock. Is this true? Does that mean mine might not be an 06? The serial number is mz6272062 if that helps. Thanks in advance.

I have an 06 MIM Tele and it has none of the badging or plaques either but I don't mind that because it sounds great and Marty Stuart autographed it and that's better than any plaque.(edit)oops I made a boo boo,I rechecked the serial No. on the Tele,it is in fact an 04 but it still sounds and plays great.

Cool. Thanks for the info. Yeah mim telecasters sound great. My '06 has this really open, gritty sound, I love it :D

So as you can see this 2006 60th MIM Stratocaster has both logos to prove it. The color is Blizzard Pearl (some kind of silver with sparkle in it), it has upgraded pickups ( texmex or texas special I don't remember right now). It was also less than a hundred bucks more expensive than the regular MIM also made in 2006. The 60th aniversary was for the Fender company, not the Strat. So I never had the chance to see a 60th Tele but I guess that they made some. If so, they should have the same logos. See ya. :)

Oops, forgot the serial number.

The first three digits are MZ6. M stands for Mexico, Z stands for zero, and 6 preceded by zero indicates that this guitar was made in 2006. The rest of the digits are the production number that Fender attributed to the guitar.

That's exactly the little plaque on the headstock my friend has. Although his strat is blue, has no engraved neckplate, and I think has standard pickups. I've nevr seen another like it.

Seems like the neck came from one guitar and the body from another. Anyways if the mystery of the headstock plaque is resolved, then all is good. I'm sure that the sound of the guitar is also quite allright. See ya. :)
