I've settled on the HW1 Tele as my guitar choice for alot of reasons, one of which is that it is made in the US. But, I've been reading lately that it is not completely made in the US, but is assembled in Mexico. Is this true or not?

Does it really matter where it was made if you like the guitar?

In a word, yes. I've looked at alot of Tele's, read a ton of opinions from experienced Tele players about the quality, electronics and fit differences between the MIM and MIA Teles, and talked to a ton of players whose opinions I respect and trust. I'm at a point in my life after 25 years of hard work that I can afford to get a really nice guitar and there are many things I like about the HW1. Of course, I'm not concerned about the geographic location of where the guitar is built, just that it's the best built Tele with the features and sound that I want. I hope that makes sense.

How are the quality, electronics and fit of YOUR guitar? I wouldn't be so concerned with what others think and go with what YOU think.
If you ask 100 experts what they think of a certain guitar you will get many opinions. The opinion that truly matters is your own.

Hey Crazychester,
You know what I have, American Standard, HWY1 and a MIM tele. As far as the HWY1 goes, I did a ton of research and I never found any data to indicate it was assembled in Mexico. I would like to think that Fender would put a disclaimer saying "Made in USA & Assembled in Mexico" somewhere in the specs for the HWY1. So I can only assume that the HWY1 is Made in the USA, meaning (to me) everything is done in the USA. Even if you watch the video about the HWY1, the references made indicate the entire guitar is made in the USA. Without getting into all the political BS, I am all for supporting American workers, so , it does make a difference for me, I sure hope I'm correct in my understanding of the HWY1, because if I'm not - bye, bye to my HWY1. Oh, and my MIM has served it's purpose, so it will be for sale soon. A Vintage Hotrod Tele will take their place. Not sure any of this helps. 8)

If you are unsure of your descision look closeley at an american deluxe, or an american standard. i have one of each, they sound different, but i like them both equally.

Your my man Nic. Thanks again for the input. I'm with you on keeping the work in the US as well. Everthing I've read and heard about the HW1 says it is made totally in the US, but I have come across some discussions here and there mentioning the assembled in Mexico reference and I want to make sure I have all the facts. No offense to those of my Tele brothers and sisters with MIM's. They're great guitars and my son has a Standard Strat (MIM). I'm just making sure I have all the facts, that's all.

I've looked at the American series and the Deluxe and they are great guitars. I just settled on the HW1 because it has just the right features, feel and sound I was looking for.

Thanks Brad! Do you by chance have access to any more detailed info on the HW1 you can email or direct me to beyond what is on the site in the specs page, such as a major industry write up or review on it?

Hi neck05 here. I find that Guitars are like snowflakes, each one is a bit unique. If it feels good to you then who cares where Fender has it made or assembled?? I understand the argument on out-sourcing work and I am behind USA products all the way but when it comes to something as personal as an axe the feel will close the deal. Who cares what your buddies may think, say, play??? It (Guitar) is the closest thing to your soul beside relationships with people and what-ever you believe in as far as a supreme power. So again, I say if the guitar fits your hands, ears and price range GO FOR IT!!!
And besides, IT IS A FENDER!!!!
I have been playing 37 yrs and I was 22 before I could lay my hands on a Fender Guitar. To me Fender = Quality!! nuf said :) :)

Thanks Neck. I really appreciate your input. Not sure what I said which led some to believe i was worried about what my buddies are going to think of my Tele choice. I've talked to friends to get their opinions on a wide variety of objective variables but not what they think about the feel sound, etc. I really don't care what people think about my choice. Dang, doesn't anyone around here do any research before they pull the trigger on a new rig? :P

You said nothing directly about others opinions. I was just making the point that the ONLY factor that matters when choosing a new guitar is How It Feels In YOUR hands. :)
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!! :)

I woke up this morning to find a Fender Highway One Telecaster under the Christmas Tree....I didn't know it was a Telecaster until I opened it up....but , apparently Santa does listen ( he must be a Muddy Waters fan ).
Before I wrote my letter to Santa, I did my own research and knew these are 100% American made. ( I live in Canada , but want to support this side of the pond whenever possible ). I now own a beautiful sounding guitar and couldn't be happier. Three color Sunburst with Rosewood fingerboard......what can I say...she's a beauty. Buy one, you'll be happy.
Time to go play some more..Merry Christmas Fender, and Merry Christmas everyone else..[/b]

They are assembled in American but parts are from elsewhere. If you look at the parts list, you will see the pickups are Mexican and some of the hardware is asian.

BUT...

I have the Highway 1 Tele and it's a fantastic guitar. As long as you like the sound, it fits you, and has the backing of Fender for warranty, you should be good to go.
