Just aquired an American Special in a trade, traded an AR15 with a drum, extra 10.5" upper, an eotech sight and a shitton of 5.56 for an old Charvel and an American Special tele.

Now I have a tele I absolutely adore already, so I'm planning on using this as a sort of experiment. I just ordered a couple of TV Jones pups. Went for the Bridge Plus and of course the standard Neck.

I'm excited.

Sounds like you'll have a cool rockabilly Tele with those pickups! The first thing I thought when I read your post was 'TV Jones doesn't make Tele pickups'. Then I went on TV Jones website and saw this:

So I guess it can be done with their regular pickups. But you need a new bridge and pickguard of course. But, how are the American Specials routed? If they have the traditional single/single pickup route, be prepared to get out your chisel!

Please post pics and let us know how it sounds. I would think a Tele + filtertrons = awesome.

Here's a pair of twin-pickup Custom Shop Cabronita Specials with the pickup config you're talking about. These guitars are not mine.

Those look dead sexy O_O

Any links to vids of Cabronita players?

I got the idea from a local player who had TV Jones in a 535, and it sounded awesome, I went to their site and saw they had a Tele section.

Thinking of adding a Bigsby to it also.

I saw TV Jones pickups on a Telecaster, but a Strat with two FilterTron humbuckers and a hardtail bridge would be the icing to the cake! This baby is made for rockabilly.

If you like Carl Perkins and his blue suede shoes, this is the guitar for you!

Not mine, though.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you cannot get the Cabronita look with the American Special. Look at how the American Special is routed in the pic below and compare that to the pics of the Cabronita above.

To even use TV Jones in your Tele, like the pic posted on his website, you have to route out the bridge pickup cavity and get a new bridgeplate and pickguard. Better get your chisel or dremel out and go to town on that bridge pickup route to make it big enough. At least the Am Spc is already routed for a humbucker at the neck position. Good luck!

I didn't posted the Cabronita pictures to offend you, dear. These photos are strictly used for reference purposes, no else matters.

After all, these Cabronitas are not mine. :!:

Got the pups, got new Bridge, pickguard and parts from warmoth, and got a friend at Fret Not routing the body for me so I can wire it up.

Been working a lot lately though. Prolly not gonna get around to it until August-ish.
