ok so i got my GC/musicians friend exclusive ashbody tele.
had it set up with 11's and the action lowered.
the guitar plays great and i cant seem to put it down.
changed out that ugly redish pickguard and installed
a black one. PERFECT!
i have locking machineheads in mind.
pay a few bills first and they will be bought and installed.
ok so, i dont think the tele has that twang im looking for.
need the tele twanging.
i was told that to get a good twang, a compressor/limiter
should/could be used. i have an old one around here somewhere.
looked up a youtube video where a guy was using one and it totally made the difference for him. ok so im gonna find mine tomorrow.
IF this doesnt work, its time for a pickup change im thinking.
so in my situation, what pickups should i consider?
i like the texas sound, but need my twang.

I agree totally with Nevin about the compressor being "tricky" to set up, but they are very easy to understand once you begin playing with it, and begin to understand what each feature does.

The threshold, in my opinion, is the most important control. Threshold tells the compressor the level that the signal must be at in order to start working.

The ratio sets the amount of compression once the threshold has been exceeded.

The attack time lets the compressor know how long to wait before starting to do its job, once it figures out that the input threshold has been exceeded.

The release time is when the signal drops back below the threshold level. The release time tells the compressor how long to take to get back to "normal", when it is no longer needed to compress the input signal.

See??? Simple.... :D

You may wish to try the settings I use, perhaps they will be a good starting point for you.

Threshold: -20 to -25db
Ratio: 4:1
Attack Time: 80 to 100ms
Release Time: .8 to 1.2 seconds

Those settings should give you a little bit of compression that I find really enhances my sound, while at the same time not taking away any punch from my guitar.

Good luck and have fun playing with your compressor.

all my attacks were the same and i couldnt get any dynamics or
accents in my playing.

hum.......... i know, i can blame it on you two and stand my ground lol.

You're more than welcome.

Your Tele, a little bit of compression, and I stress, little bit of compression, and some delay, and I believe you should get the sound you are looking for. After all, those 3 are tried and true, and have passed the test of time...

oh yes the king of the tele, good ole danny gatton.
hes amazing nevin. that guy is at 1 with that tele.
any videos you have in mind up front?
i'll tell you, theres another guy that can make a tele jump through hoops, thats a guy named john5.
watch some of his youtube stuff.
might not be your style but give the guy a chance
by watching a couple videos of him. hes crazy amazing and extremely humble too.
go watch a few and report back. im interested in your opinion.

stay tuned to this post grover. i'll update it on my findings with the pedal tomorrow evening. i gotta find another pedal as well.
a friend back in 96 gave me two pedals, a tube screamer and a morley PWB wah. ive dug out the wah and repaired it. the tube screamer i never bothered with as im a boss pedal fan and played heavy metal back then. i didnt have a need for it.
it might serve now with my tele and strat through the blues jr.
been toying with the idea of getting a fulltone OCD v3 or a tonebone classic as well.
