Hey guys,

I recently picked up this from my local music shop:

Image
Plays great, sounds great, and, IMHO, looks great. Its my first Tele, so I'm not sure exactly what to expect.

Here's what I know about it so far: It's a Fender Butterscotch Blond Highway One Tele. Custom made for the Mid-West/New England/Mid-Atlantic regions. 150 made, and only available in July of 2007.

Specs: Alder body, custom lacquer finish, maple neck/fingerboard 9.5", custom shop Nocaster pups, and a Greasebucker tone control.

So, anyone else have any of these? Should I hold on to it for a possible big resale? :D

Hey Jailbreak--

Sorry I can't be of more help. This is my first post from a lurker who's in the market for a Tele after many years of playing acoustics and Gibson electric archtops (an ES-125, actually, which I love).

I just found out that a shop near me has one of the very same spec Highway One Teles, and I was curious to check it out. It is a bit of a hike from here, though, so I was waiting until after Christmas to make the drive. Could you give a report on how it sounds, how it plays, what sort of amp you are using, etc.? It would be great to hear a hands-on gear report, especially about the Nocaster pickup/Highway One body combo.

It looks like a great guitar. My impression from this forum and others is that Highway Ones are made to use, rather than to collect (on the other hand, the same could be said of the very first Broadcasters/Nocasters/Telecasters!)

Of course.

Well, to start off: this thing just feels good in my hands. Great neck, good balance in the weight. Not exactly a light guitar, but not anything painful.

The factory set up was great. Good action, level/clean frets and great intonation (needed a bit of tweaking, but that's expected).

Now lets get down to the good stuff:

The pickups. We'll start off with the neck. Sounds great clean, slightly overdriven and crunched. It really retains note clarity until you begin pushing it into heavy metal distortion, although it can handle alot of it without mudding up. It's got great bass and mids, and good treble for a neck pup.

The bridge pickup is amazing. It can go anywhere from screaming blues and rock to clean twang to some nasty metal. Great response, medium output, and insane clarity in the notes. I'm convinced it can do anything. You can roll it back and get some sweet clean fingerpicking going.

Combine the two, and you get the best of both worlds, plus quite good noise cancellation. "Jack of all trades" setting.

Any more info wanted?

Hey again, Jailbreak--

Wow. Thanks for a nice overview. It sounds great and like just what I am looking for. One last question: what sort of amp are you running it through?

That's a beautiful guitar! I hope you enjoy it for years to come. I am definitely taking a drive out to see one in person after Christmas!

A Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. Great little tone machine. And good luck!
