I want to get a 4-way switch for my MIM Standard Tele. It seems like a great mod for it, I was just wondering how difficult it would be to install it as I have no skills with wiring or soldering. Any input or good videos I can look up, or just plain instructions would be nice.

Thanks,

Sean

You have to mod your neck pickup.

This is a good expaination:

http://www.guitar-mod.com/rg_4wayinfo.html

On your neck pup the BLACK wire is the negative, and Black in the diagram

Your White is the POSITIVE, which is Blue in the diagram.

Then the yellow would signify the one you added to the pup doing the mod.

I recently had a 4 way switch added to my '09 MIM standard Tele. IMHO, this is a great mod, especially if you use any higher gain settings. Mine sounds much fatter and fuller in series. The bridge pickup sounds very thin by itself in comparison to both pups in series. I would recommend having a good tech do the installation, as that's what I did. Works great for me.

A switch is about 18-20 bucks and if you are fairly handy at soldering, it isn't very HARD to do the mod AT ALL.

I wouldn't be afraid to do it if I were you, it's no big deal.

Ya it's not too hard. Kind of fun and rewarding to learn and to do it yourself.

What you need for the job (gun, solder, ect.,) won't set you back too far.
You would pay a "tech" more than that for ONE job.
There is plenty of info on the Internet naturally for how to go about it.

The best thing to do is just take some junk wire, old pots or switches and practice first to get the hang of it.
