Can anyone tell me how to positively I.D. a '52 Tele as real vintage. I am looking at one that definitely has many legit parts on it, but wondering in particular about the neck. It has been refinished and has no date. Any way to positively I.D. the neck as NOT re-issue. It DOES has the narrow dot spacing, on the 12th fret, but so do re-issues. What about the body, bridge, pickups etc. Any way to positively I.D. these as legit vintage vs. re-issue? Any help is appreciated.

The first thing I would look for is nail holes in the body as they were part of the finishing process. A good hoaxer will know them anyways, but if nothing shows up, big red flag.

Nail holes are there, shape of control cavity is correct, most parts seem legit, old switch pots, etc. Odd thing is it's a late '52, serial number 36XX, and it has the slotted truss nut, which I thought was gone by then. So the neck is more the concern. Truss threads are 8 x 24 which is right, but I don't know if they did that on re-issues or Custom Shop '51 Nocasters. Tuners are correct on the neck. But as I said, it's a full refin with neck date gone and decal replaced, etc., so I'm really looking for some info on the neck.

Hi,
You didn't say what the price is. Check the serial.
If it's cheap enough and that guitar is repairable and playable grab it.
I've got a 52 reissue that plays great ,I designated it as my Stones guitar.

You can't always go by a date on the neck. In 1967, I special ordered a Tele and I still own it today. The guitar has never been out of my control, or loaned out to anyone. About a year ago I had the neck taken off to check the date on the neck. Long story short, there was no date on the neck. I was told the tech and shown in a Fender ID book that this unusual, but not totally uncommon. We checked the pods and they were dated the 26th week of 1966. The serial number on the guitar indicated it was made in November of 1967.
