I was thinking about getting the Jim Root Telecaster and was wondering how they are, what they're like and how duriable they are, this will be my first Tele. I know that he has just brought out his new Stratocaster, but most of my guitars are Super-Strats and I own a Strat so I'm looking for a bit of a change.

So how do they hold up and would it be a good investment for my collection?

It's built great. Mahogony body, EMG pick ups, string through body bridge, killer neck and killer frets. I love it and have been playing guitar for over 30 years. It's made for metal/rock but you can get beautiful clean stuff with it too. It's the perfect guitar for me. Go for it, you won't be dissapointed.

I agree.

The flat black finish looks perfect with the maple fretboard. Same thing for the flat white colour and the ebony neck. The '70s CBS-era headstock decal really adds a vintage touch on this particular guitar.

I played one yesterday at the shop. I didn't plug it in, but I really liked the feel. I am partial to the contoured back and heel. It had a really nice neck as well.

Have you also tried the Strat?

I personally did not try the Strat. I was there to order my Tele, so I was paying a lot of attention to just the Tele's. The JR Tele happened to be right between two '72 RI Customs and I noticed the body contouring so I gave it a go.

I think the EMG pickups are active, but I don't know much about those.

EMGs are active, it's true. :)

Personally I opt for both the Tele and the Strat because they're astoundingly amazing.

My only gripe is the Strat has no fret position markers on the fingerboard.

Wow, I didn't even notice that in the picture. Do they have side markers?

I forgot to mention that prior to reading this thread, I knew who Jim Root was, but I have never heard Slipnot or Stone Sour.

I checked out a video of him on Youtube going over his new guitar and he had some crazy fast alternate picking exercises. I guess you can learn things in places you may not expect if you keep your mind open.

Still don't get the mask thing though

You're right, the Strat has side dots.

Got my matching Jim Root today. The action out of the box was fantastic, just like the maple neck Root. These are the baddest Tele's I've ever played. They both sound great and the playability is out of this world. I can't say enough about them. :D Image

Yehhmon,

Very nice. Do you notice any differences between the two?

I just got it today and only played for about 30 minutes. I'll post once I get more time in on both. I'm ecstatic though because I'm getting tons of bottom end with the mahogany body and EMG's as well as Tele clarity. The best of both worlds. Both necks are incredible. I've only seen a complaint here or there but for the most part, every person that plays one falls in love with it. Very nice locking tuners and the string through body is great in my opinion. Clean tones are clean and dirty are dirty as all get out with clarity though.

Eventhough Mick Thomson does most of the lead Jim is pretty awesome, he's my favourite member and I already have Jim's mask. I only use it for Halloween though.
