I think I found a Tele that I really like...it is a 2007 American tele in 2 tone sunburst with a maple neck....MINT with original hardcase and all the goodies that came with it. He wants $650 for it. I saw it up for trade a week or so ago, the guy was wanting to do a trade + cash for a strat or les paul, but I'm guessing that he didn't get any bites, so he just put it up for sale. That price seems to be pretty decent...I was hopin for a rosewood fretboard in a lake placid blue or candy apple red, but This one looks like it might be a winner, cause I'm a sucker for the 2-tone burst finish. What do you think...good price?

here is the pic

I think it's a fair bet that the guy is planning on getting 6 bills for the axe. It's very common to put up a price of $25-$50 higher than what the person expects to get for their item. Craigslist sellers do it all the time They figure that people will ask for that much off of the asking price, so they can take the offer, and still get what they wanted for it. it's price haggling simplified, and everybody comes away from the deal happy. That's one fine looking Tele, and the price is real good in my humble opinion, that's about the average i have seen the American standard teles and strats go for on the milwaukee, janesville, and madison wisconsin craigslist websites over the last couple of years. I bought an American standard strat a few months back fo 6 bills.

Offer him $500 and work from there. It has been my experience that on Craigslist you should expect to buy or sell something in good shape for about 50% of new discounted price.

People usually don't sell guitars like this because they no longer like it. He probably needs the money and will jump on $500 or may go up to $550 and you still get a good deal.

I agree 100% that the "standard" for pricing is half of the new price on craigslist. The seller just might bite at the $500 offer. The $600 average i have seen is in my area of wisconsin only, so who knows. I'm thinking that even if $500 isn't enough, you'll very likely receive a counter offer considerably lower than the original asking price.

Looking at that Tele, I am curious if it is an 8502. The 2-tone sunburst and what looks to be an ash body is the first clue.
The 2nd would be if the winding around the bridge p'up is white and the string-tree is round. Also black neck dots.

If all these apply, it is a GREAT guitar, well worth your investment. 8502's are very close the CS-quality.
