I have a Fender Telecaster Thinline.
It is a 72 Re-Issue - Made In Japan.
The body is light wood, freetboard is maple.

There is no serial number to be found. It does not look like one was removed either.

I took the neck off and on the body is stamped:
TN 72EX and a Red "N" Circled in Red.
There was only a couple of letters on the neck:
T (red) N-72(Black)

Does anyone know how to find the date it was made?

It does not say "Thinline" on the headstock.
The "Fender" Logo is a little above and overlapping "Telecaster".
Not one after the other like I have seen other headstock Logo's.
It has a 3 bolt neck plate - Fender Japan.
Neck is stamped - Made In Japan.

Thank you,
Rick

That certainly is a strange one. Any chance of posting some photos, especially of the headstock decal? My understanding is that they usually have the word "Thinline" on them.

I am worried that it might be a fender copy guitar, not the real thing, based on your description of the decal.

I think I saw one on eBay with the same decal - but I can't find it now.
Here is one without "Thinline" - Item number: 300181157551

It may be a neck from a regular Tele. It sounds amazing though.

Just added pics to original post.
Let me know if you can not see them.

Rick

Here's my MIJ 72RI Thinline.

Sorry, I don't have a photo of the headstock with me at present.

AjayTele,

Do you know what markings are on the Body and Neck when you take your neck off?

Do you know what year yours is?

Does it have a Serial Number somewhere? Where?

What does yours say on the Headstock under Fender?

Thank you,
Rick

I went and had a look at the eBay listing you referenced it's for a CIJ 69RI Thinline, which does have a different headstock decal to the MIJ 72RI. I used to have one of those...

And the MIJ version has the same decal.

On my MIJ 72RI Thinline, the serial number is under the "fender" on the headstock. Mine is an S prefix, indicating about a 1994 made guitar. I have not had the neck off to check the internal markings however.

Thank you for your help.
I did some research and I am sure my neck and body belong together.
The previous owner must have replaced the Decal - maybe the original got scratched up.
This explains no Serial Number.

I think the N on my neck and body may mean a N SN prefix - meaning a 93-94 guitar. Maybe not though.

Thank you,
Rick

Here is some photos of my brand new 72 Thinline. My girlfriend just got this for me for Christmas. I'm not sure if it will help a great deal, but it might make it easier to draw comparisons.

Cheers.

The dates not stamped on the neck? It looks like some one may have built it

Was this guitar on Ebay a little while ago? I remember looking this up and not seeing any info what so ever. Is there a serial # on the bridge at all?
