I'd say the Deluxe Nashville Tele come close, both in feel and sound.

I don't know, I've never played one, but I really want it for the strat pickup!

Anyway... I played a Road Worn, and that felt like one to me. Sounded great too. Though really, they all do, even my standard.

If you get a standard though, change the bridge. It helps immeasurably.

The Deluxe Nashville is a very nice guitar - I have it and the Deluxe Nashville Power Tele. Both are very good Teles and outstanding quality. You might also want to take a look at the MIM Classic Series; the '50s and '60s. My Classic Series '60s is also a very solid, outstanding quality Tele. I've talked with several folks who say the Classic Series '50s is the best MIM Tele made. I'm waiting to get my hands on one.

I have a Classic Series '50s Esquire that is just an amazing guitar. Try an Esquire for something different.

Several forumites also swear by their Classic Player Baja Tele's. I've tried several and it's the next Tele on my list. It's designed by the Custom Shop guys and built in Mexico.

A Classic Series '72; either the Thinline, Custom or Deluxe are all very nice MIM models as well.

There is nothing wrong with the MIM Standard Tele either. I have several I've purchased to mod, but even right from the box they are terrific sounding and playing.

Bottom line - there is nothing wrong w/ a MIM Tele. My American and Japanese Tele's are completely awesome, but if all I had was a single, Standard MIM Tele, I'd still be a very happy Tele player indeed!

My Jim Root signature model is MIM to my surprise. Let me tell you, it is perfect. MIM, MIA, it doesn't seem to really matter with this model. It is built for rock--it has a mahogany body and EMG pickups so I wouldn't all it a "traditional" tele. I'm super happy with it.

Way Cool - my Esquire is a MIM 2009 model. Ash body, White Blonde w/ a white, single-ply pickguard. You can see the grain pattern through the paint. Very cool looking. C-shaped maple neck. Build quality is outstanding. Neck feels good, no problems at all w/ the frets. Weight is about the same as my Teles. Vintage style 3 saddle bridge. Electronics have given me no problems. The pup is the vintage style Tele pup. I run it through either an original '65 Champ, a SCXD or a Princeton '65 reissue, so I've got a good amp to be able to play w/ the sound and tone a bit.

Of course as an Esquire, it only has a single pup in the bridge position. It still has the 3-way selector switch like a Tele, but the switching runs this way:

Position 1 (bridge) - bridge pup with volume and no tone contol (gives you a bit more high-end than a Tele)
Position 2 (middle) - bridge pup with volume AND tone control (standard Tele controls but in the middle position)
Position 3 (neck) - bridge pup with volume and the signal is run through a cap and resistor (it gives you kind of a "fixed bassy", darker sound and some volume loss)

I love Tele's for the basic simpleness of the guitar, and the Esquire is even simplier! The thing I like about the Esquire is with the lack of a second pup, I'm forced to be more aware of how I use my pick as far as the way I attack the strings. I'm hoping it is making me a better player, because I'm paying more attention to the way I'm playing and I'm not hiding behind more options w/ the pups. (As opposed to my Nashville Tele's with 3 pups and 5-way switching!)

I am extremely happy with my Esquire. It sounds, plays and looks outstanding. I really think you'd be happy with any MIM in the Tele line-up. I love my Strats, Mustang, Cyclone, etc, but I am absolutely fixated with Teles (13 at last count, with more on my wish list. 7 are MIMs and I think they are great guitars.)

You really need to get one!

A very subjective question so here's my 2 cents.

I have several MIM Fenders, a couple are Deluxe Series (Nashville)

I think they are excellent guitars for the money.

With some pup changing, they can be made to sound fantastic and will give any USA a run for their money.

Another part of the equation, I have been play guitars for over 35 years and really am just mediocre. I have fun playing and am not a professional so for me that do the job just ducky !!

Owning a 2500 dollar guitar may sound impressive..................until I play it.

To each his own.

:D

I swear by anything from the Classic Series. Def Mexico's strong point!

I have a 2009 MIM Standard Tele and really like it. Appears to have the same quality (fit/finish) as my MIA Strat
