I'm getting one off layaway that's either wine red or candy apple red, with a maple fingerboard, and was curious about the body wood for those years.

I think they are all (MIM Stds) poplar since 2001. You can send Fender an e-mail with the serial number and they'll let you know for sure.

Actually around '98 they went to Alder.

The specs that George posted are from the newest model (start 2008).

from 1998-2005 they were the same, then in '06 there was the upgrade,(MJ frets, hot ceramic pups) then '08 was another slight change.............tinted neck, parchment pg and controls, Chrome Red & Electron Blue discontinued
that's about it.....

.....oh ya, and a PRICE HIKE !

oh well no big deal, sometimes it's hard to give the most...... poplar answer.

I even screwed up my first post thinking the OP was talking about an older (94-95) one. I have no idea why I thought that, the title of the post is 2004-2005 ????? like lago "I should pay more attention next time "

Dumb in the morning, dumb all day.

Hey SoylentGreenIsPeople, did ya get it yet ??

Yep, had it a few weeks now. I actually like it better than my strat from the same year. I love the neck. It's maple fingerboards for me from now on! I also love the contour and radius.
