I'm not able to see the picture, but things were much simpler back then when it came to models. They weren't as hard to figure out back then.
Here is a general run down of all the models I can think of. See if yours falls into this catagory:

1. Thinline Tele- Telecaster with "F" whole on the upper part of the body

2. Telecaster "Deluxe"- Telecaster with 2 Fender Himbuckers, 4 knobs and a toggle switch at the top of the body. Neck has a '70s Strat style Headstock.

3. Telecaster "Custom"- 1 single coil pick up and 1 Humbucker, 4 knobs, 1 toggle switch.

4. "Custom" Telecaster-Normal Telecaster w/ White binding. This not to be confused with the Tele "Custom," which was a later model.

5. Rosewood Telecaster- This is a pretty rare telecaster. They were made entirely of rosewood. You can see George Harrison playing one during, "Get Back." I'm sure when they stop the origenal production.

5. Basic Telecaster- to single coil pick ups and standard set up. Generally speaking if your tele doesn't fit into any of the other catagorties, than it's probibly a stand Telecaster.

I hope this all helps.

Hi Paris

It does help. I have a basic tele from your descriptions I think the color is
Natural and the pickups a stock. Maple neck (very thin) I like it. 8.5 LBS

My mom and her friends are garage sale troopers so I head an idea. I made
a list with pic's of the guitars to look for and gave them to her and her friends.
When they find one of the list they send me a photo from their cell phones.

So far it's worked pretty good. 2 Gibson's ( LP and SG), 2 PRS's and now this
Tele and I'm just over a grand in to all of them. They have also found me some
nice old amps.

Thanks for your service and help Paris.

Thanks for the response. Cool idea. See if they can't find a Strat from the '60s.

I've been looking at the Fender tele page and see that my guitar looks
more like a Butterscotch Blonde more then a Natural finish. What do you guys
think. Over 80 hits and one reply. Not much help here. Still don't know
about the pickups.

I can finally see a picture of your guitar. You, your Tele is natural finish (may have been blonde at one time, but refinished) '73 Tele. The pick up are mostlikely stock unless a previous owner changed them out. They look stock, but I can't really. If you take them out and look at the back it maight be a clue. I had a '77 Strat and the Base of the bobbin (the back the of the pickup) was gray.

Also I noticed that the bridge looks like a 6 saddle replacement. To the best of my knowledge Fender didn't start using 6 saddle bridges on Teles until later.

My best advice if you really want to know what's what, find a vintage guitar dealer.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for this guitar?

I got my black '77 Strat for $700 back in '04. It's now worth double.

Good luck!

Paris

Hey Paris

Thanks for the reply. It's still a stock finish the only thing changed on the
guitar were the tuners and the pick guard and I have the originals they were both in the case. I called the local vintage shop and they confirmed all you said
except they did have the 6 saddle bridges back then so that's original also.
My mom got the Tele for $120 so I guess I'm pretty happy. Every guitar
she has found has been a steal. She sent a pic of an old Strat she said the
Serial # put it in the 60's and there is a Fender Twin amp also. I told her to buy both. I get to check them out this weekend when we are at the lake. Hey here's link to the vintage shop I called. They have some nice stuff.

Thanks again and RockOn
