I just received the latest issue of Vintage Guitar with a full page ad about the new Fender American Standard Telecaster. They list www.fender.com/makehistory as a place to learn about the new model....BUT...the web site doesn't work.

Anybody know what's going on?

Maybe the website won't be activated until the guitar is debuted in 2008.

I think one of the main changes was to the saddles on the bridge.

I'm looking at getting the current American standard Tele that has the newer bridge saddles. Can you tell me the difference between these types of saddles and the more traditional 3 brass saddles? Does it affect playability, sound, etc.?

There is not currently an American Standard Tele. There will be soon, though.
The current model is the American Series. I't six-saddle bridge (with stainless steel block saddles) offers better intanation than three saddles (though my Tele sounds fine with three saddles) and some will say the six-saddle bridge doesn't sound as good.

The upcoming American Standard Tele has stamped Strat saddles.

The website works now.

Some people prefer the 3 saddle bridges saying that they get more sustain from the strings due to the bigger saddles. I personally don't know if this is true or not. It can affect sound a bit cause intonation is a bit difficult with 3 saddle bridges at times, but then they make compensated saddles to help battle that. So the only thing I can say is go to your nearest Fender dealer to see if there is any noticeable differences to you, because in the end, it comes down to what sounds and feels the best to you.

There was an ad in a magazine, but I think they have not posted them on the web yet until its "official" release which I think is some time in the next month or so.

In betwixt all this rampant speculation, I was hoping someone would pop in and note that the web link above actually mentions the specific day when more information will be available. :-)

I really hate being teased.

Ya I saw the ad in Vintage Guitar Magazine and ran to the office to try to find more info and as you all know its not there.

I am down to one Tele and one Strat and so the gas attacks have begun.

O.K. Fender let us in on the secret!!!!!!!!

Yeah, that sounds cool, I sure hope these new US standards are cheaper than than the US series teles and strats.

By the way, here's another example of how Fender guitars can be directly compared to cars. Here's some guys talkin about, say Ford Mustangs (just an example guys) "Gee I sure can't wait for the '08's to get here"

Now here's you guys talking about the USAS teles. "Gee I sure can't wait for the '08's to get here"

Classic guys!
