I tried out the American Vintage 52 and American Vintage 52 Hot Rod, as well as the American Deluxe and Standard. I loved the U shaped neck of the vintages. And I loved the larger radius of the Hot Rod.

Two questions

1. Any other teles come with a U neck other than the vintages?
2. What is the difference between the U neck and V neck

I think the vintage guitars are the only ones equipped with a U-neck. I could be wrong though; there are better people to ask than myself.

The difference between a U-neck and a V-neck is quite extreme, I find. A U-profile is very large, but also very round: a Louisville Slugger, for instance. A V-neck, on the other hand, is shaped very much like a V in that the back of the neck truncates in a fairly sharp point. It's like playing a 4"x4" set at an angle.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks.

One quick question..I

I found it was really difficult to play solos on the smaller radius neck of the Vintage 52. I assume you can overcome once you get used to the neck.

bluemoon - If you're looking for a large neck you can check out the G.E. Smith Telecaster. Purportedly a larger neck than the '52 vintage instruments.

Indeed. The neck on the GE Smith Telecaster is chunkier than on the AVRI 52 but not as hefty as the Nocaster. It's a U-carve as well.

The '08 American Deluxe Ash Tele's neck has a 'U' shape. Least mine does. New product listing quotes a 'U' shape as well. Love it. Similiar to the '59 LP profile. What a sweet guitar (and until 4 months ago never thought I cared for Teles...for shame)

Hey Dutch, lot of the same gear. Tele's butterscotch blonde, too. '07 American Deluxe Strat, a LP Special w/SD vintage 90's (excellent pickups), 2 DRRI's and a Bj NOS, amongst a bunch more.

Raising the action helps too, to me.

I have an Am. Deluxe Ash Tele with a U shaped neck and I love it. I just ordered a U shaped neck from Warmoth for a 52 Hot Rod body I recently bought. Since I started playing a U shape my Strats just feel funny.

The now-discontinued American Ash Tele (model 8502) also has the U-shaped neck. They were produced from 2003 - 2007, and if you keep you eyes open you can find them on EB.

Of course, some of the sellers don't realize they are the 8502 model and may suggest they are Am Std or Deluxes.

These are phenomonal guitars, one step from a CS. Simple looks, extraordinary sound and playability!!

I sold my Strat VG (which I did like) as soon as I got hold of that Tele.
