I just ordered a Tim Overdrive pedal. Should get it in August. Perhaps I got caught up in the hype. But this pedal is getting some great reviews and the videos I see/hear sound great.

Anybody else have a Tim?

No, but I want one.

I'm a bit of an OD freak, and it sounds excellent in all of the demos. Good luck with it, and report back after it arrives!

A friend did a side by side comparison with one of those and a Blackstar HD (with a tube in it) and the Blackstar sounded better, although both are very good.

tubes, when over driven, compress the signal (to a point) it doesnt clip such that of digital processing.
its called tube saturation, and depending on the tube, you can have all kinds of tone/gain etc.

pedal with tube + amp with tubes = lots of tubes. Can one ever have too many tubes?

yes, indeed you can have 2 many tubes, but, if its the flavor you like, then go for it.
ive got tubes amps all over the place, some are combos, some are stack, i have halfbreeds as well where they use tubes for gainstage tone and ic chips for the power side of the amps.
I will say one thing......there is nothing like the tone of a "nice Fender Tele or Strat" running thru a nice tube amp.
The tone of my aged cherry sunburst tele thru my 76 twin reverb is very unique, crystal clear, thick and rich in beautiful over tones,,but the weight of the amp is just too much, i choose to haul my crate palomino to gigs because its more practical./
with solid state amps, you dont have to worry about replacing tubes,or trying to find the same rating of tubes that give you the flavor you like, but to my ears, solid state amps still fall short of a real tube amp.
with all the preamp tubes and power tubes being pushed, they give you a special tone that IMO, cant be recreated by digital processing or solid state componentry.
